Had the quads loaded on the sled deck, hooked up the trailer and pulled it out front of the house so I could load the RZR.

Started loading the the trailer when Tina noticed somthing that cought my attention!:eek:

Apperantly I cant turn nearly as sharp with the deck extended!! Oh well, I get to do some body work. Of course it was pouring out so we had to get an easy up and build some gutters on the trailer to keep it dry.

After drying it with a heater for several hours it was tim to play with the putty!

And a little bit of sanding and I think were getting there....

Prime it and ready for paint the next day!

My neighbor is the bomb with paint. He matched this color almost perfect!!!

And Presto! Just like new!!!!:D:D

LOL the bondo buggy. Nice work! Can you get an extension for your hitch so it won't happen again?

Eric,

I have an extension in my garage that would move it out a foot further. I am hesitant to use it as that is putting alot of weight on the extension thus more leverage on the rear of the trucks axle.

I could be wrong but thats my thoughts......

I learned that lesson, I put in my super hitch extension when I use my sled deck and pull the trailer

That's what I'm worried about too...and my trailer's not half the size/weight of yours.

How big of a trailer and how much weight?????

Plus I have to take into consideration two quads on the deck. Thats a lot of weight on the rear axle.:eek:

what truck do you have? I have a 06 f350 with a 10 ft artic fox camper and a 19 ft enclosed trailer. I guarantee you won't have that much weight

02 F350. Sled deck two quads on the deck and a 34 foot toyhauler (front bedroom) loaded to the hilt! It drops the rear of that truck pretty good. I am sure it would handle it. I just dont like the idea....

I have a 2000 F 350 SWD carrying a older 99' Lance camper pulling a 5000lb 08' 26 foot Baja Outlaw boat (dry weight with no fuel, 100 gallon fuel tank). I had Torklift Central in Kent install a set of airbags with an onboard compressor and their SuperTruss extension system (32" extension) with lateral safety chain assemblies allowing me to carry the camper weight on the bed with no rear sagging in the rear of the truck and safely pull the boat without having to worry about any hitch failure. I dont think you will have a problem if you put the right extension setup on your rig. Check Torqlift out.

I have thought about putting bags on it. Thanks for the insight. I will check them out!:D

put some airbags on it and it will help, I had airbags on my 04 but the 06 doesn't need them. I can get a set of used ones for $175 let me know

I think airbags can be a false sense of security though. A buddy of mine hauls a 3500 lb (dry weight) Elkhorn camper that is packed full to just shy of 5000 lbs as well as 8000 lbs of sleds,trailer, gear, the kitch sink, etc. This all on a D-max 3/4 ton with airbags. He figures if the airbags will hold it up, everything's okay. We had a low (not flat, just low) rear tire coming back from Halfway, OR last year and when passed by a semi, were damn near blown off the road...almost couldn't get it back:eek: I'd hate to see it with a blow out...

I wouldn't put a camper that weighs that much on a chevy, IMO ford is the only truck I would put a heavy camper on. that is the 05 and newer. what I would do is stop at a closed weigh station and weigh your back axle with the trailer and sled deck with the quads. I would think it would be around 2000 pds maybe 2500pds. the one at the end of HWy 18 works good

If you use the extension, just crank those equalizer bars up another link or 2 and that'll put more weight on the front axle. You can actually crank them enough to take ALL the weight off the rear wheels......I recall an old advertisement for EZ-lift hitch where they removed the rear wheels of the truck and had a huge trailer in tow while the truck remained level. Just a thought-:beer;

Wonder why he is using a 3/4 ton carrying and pulling all that weight. Smart thing would have been to invest in a heavier duty truck, IMO. Of course installing heavier duty shocks and other suspension parts would also help out if it hasnt been done yet.

Sounds like a Super Hitch is in order! And maybe some bags to keep it all level!!

Thanks for all the input!!:face-icon-small-hap

Really, with the weight of some of the campers anymore, a dually is the only safe way to haul one. Anyone that blows a tire on a SRW truck with 5K on the bed is in for a ride. It's even worse with a lifted rig:eek:

I disagree with you on the Ford only thing but that's just cause I pull with a Cummins;)...but not to get a brand war started. Everyone has their loyalty:beer;

My next truck will be a dually for sure!! (FORD) and a new 5th wheel trailer! I would have gone with the 5th wheel this time but the lifted truck is just to high!

Four more years out of this one and it's time for new!!!:D
