Was bored... added extra tires to my truck. w/PICS.... Oh, and a flatbed too.

Good to Go

Time to make some storage room on the truck. We use the camper in the winter and summer.. Storage wasn't a problem in the winter; could pretty much fit the extras in the trailer..:) But it sucked in the summer.

Besides, pickups SUCK.

Original ride.. 180,000, non-matching pin striping, new tires..

Tear off, air bags with on board air compressor. Individual lines. Liking it!!

Hmmmmm... guess I ought to get busy.

Planned on making this one on the light weight side. Usually build stout, but this one won't have any concentrated loads. Also, was working on adding a ramp that could be stored underneath.

I don't own a plasma cutter (no, I really don't know why, but I don't). Got the cuts done for the lights and the notch and reinforcement for the ramp..then had to heat straighten it back.

Soooo....

Got basic frame finished.

Headache rack (I'm a believer)

Brackets for new boxes..

Deck on and ready for blasting. I prefer wood flatbeds for a thousand reasons, but I plan on using this as a sled deck sometimes (hence, the ramp) and didn't want the additional 1 3/8" height...

Blasted.!!. I actually don't enjoy this part.

Etching primer first..

Ahhhhh... tires. Had to dump my brand new 285 Toyo's..:( Put HT's on this time. I like quiet.

Looking a 'little' better..

Still got a little work to do. Bumper has been finished (diamond plate added to close that big opening), electrical is done. I modified the ramp a bit..flipped the plastic riders onto the bottom side..saves me about an inch which lkept the bed from getting taller, and I shortened the ramp about 8-10" to keep it away from the fuel tank outlets near the front. Also, going to add a piece of diamond plate on the first couple of feet in the center. When pulled out, it's our porch. Gotta have a porch for honey.. Got the expanding step coming too, which will come off the side and lead to the ground (either side). I made an extension for the hitch, which when it's installed allows the truck to jack knife with the trailer. Handy for driving around tight spots and or idiots....:p I still have to run over the scales to check the front axle weight differences when the hitch is extended, but initial calc's don't have me concerned.

Now, the tools, gen and fuel, cables and chains (yes, I do carry and use them..:cool:) can all ride with the truck. And the air bags are killer. About 15-20#'s of air and I'm still not touching the overloads. No more squeaky going down the road... They max at 100#'s..don't think I'll need that much.

Nice setup man. I used to carry a cabover and pull a big enclosed trailer with my SRW Superduty and even with airbags, aftermarket sway bar, and RS9000 shocks it was not very relaxing. Swapping to duals was a smart move for you. Nice job too.

I have a lance 12' I went with the duals just for that reason oh and have the air bags too. Those are a must. That looks like a very userfriendly set up, really like the extra tool boxes on the bed. great job.

Cool! Now you can drive me to Canada this season... assuming your lady will let you out of the house.

Great job.:beer;

Once you've had flatbed, you will never go back.:)

Well I wish I had never gone back. I LOVED my flatbed dually.

Ahh Some day again!!!! Remember how you built it so I can steal your plans for my sled truck.

Seriously, WTH is wrong with this picture...?

I got a call today asking about this thread... sure enough, there aren't any pics. I was cleaning and rearranging my messed up photobucket account and wouldn't you know it, I can't edit that which I put the effort to produce for everyone else.

I can hear the comment now from the little mod... "just ask, and we'll be glad to help you".

Kizz my weary azz.. I ain't in pre-school anymore and don't have to ask to wipe my butt. It's called trust, and since you don't trust me to do the job that I started, you can just sit there in your little cubicle and sniff the results of your new ways.

What a croc...
