Warranty?

Just curious if anyone had removed a turbo off a sled to get warranty on an engine failure. Would the ECM record anything if fuel was pulled on an Etec on bottom end or anything else? If this wouldn't work, I gues u could trade ECM, key and gauge with a friends stocker and switch back if u needed warranty.

Yeah... Give it a whirl, and let us know how it goes :face-icon-small-dis.. with that being said your anticipated attempt to F BRP will almost surely end in failure. Man up dude, if you wasted your motor with unapproved mods don't hang it on Doo, the dealer, or your fellow riders. It's one thing to swap a can with a muffler to slip through warranty, but a turbo related failure? Really? Swapping the ECM wont get you anywhere either, the vin #'s wont jive. Besides when you get busted you'll look like a douche and will be needing to find a new dealer ... do the right thing

100% douche move.

If you have to take the mods off to get warranty, maybe you should think about your relationship with your dealer, and maybe it's time to start riding a stock sled.

If you can afford the turbo, you can afford the damage the turbo did.

You certainly can swap ecms as long as u swap the key and gauge which takes minutes. I have done it. The rotating assembly doesn't care which ECM is controlling it as long as its for the right serial # break / model yr. I was only asking about that because I'm not sure if that would even be nessisary.

This thread brings up a good point. What if the motor goes down, but it has nothing to do with the mods involved. In other words the failure would have happened anyway.

Should you:

A- Take it to the dealer as-is and hope they can tell, like you can, it was a faulty BRP part.

-OR-

B- Strip you stuff off and take it so they don't give ya grief or deny warranty.

I've never had a stock sled, and I've never taken a part off to deal with a warranty issue.

if my ecu went out & I was running a big bore... I expect to be taken care of. If my injectors go out... same deal. But if I'm running boost & my motor goes down... I man the F up & deal with it. I've brought my sleds in for warranty work on legit items, and never been denied, and I've sacked up & dealt with my issues a number of times as well.

I have a good relationship with my dealer, and that's exactly why... because I want to be able to be taken care of when I NEED it.

Though you may not think it's moral to play that low ball game...
At least 1 of your kit builders uses JUST THAT EXACT LINE in the sales pitch...

Can't call the kettle black when your the painter !!!!
Point out this poor behavior to the builders who tout being invisible and undetectable when removed for warranty repair. ...

Not the right mindset to use as a sales tool.

BCIL...

You should chill out Dude! Mike was just asking. If you're implying he's a D-bag... he's not!

A buddy blew up his pro due to a non turbo issue. Dealer got Poo to put in a new motor under warranty. Don't ask what dealer as I have no idea:)

Yes you can swap the ecm, tether and gauge and it will run just fine. The problems start when the BUDDS system shows those components are for a different sleds vin number and owner and not the vin number being used for warranty. They need the sleds vin for the programming of the BUDDS system. A good dealer will know enough to know whether or not the turbo had anything to do with it. The good ones will not care if the turbo is installed as long as it not the root of the problem. Not all dealers are like that though. What happened to your engine? My advise would be talk to your dealer and see what they recommend the first action be. They might tell you they will cover parts if you cover labor or they could tell you to hit the bricks. They don't have to work on it at all. Like any business they have the right to refuse service to anyone.

I'd sleep just fine!

After all the time and money spent on the clutching issues with my M1100... I'd stick it to AC and my under-qualified dealer/service depot/techs without hesitation. But then again this is the reason I do all my own work! Hope that XP is working good for ya Mike! Sounds good in the vid.

I was just curious is all, like I said at the start. ive never had to use warranty and currently don't own anything w warranty. about swapping the ecm's etc. I was meaning to use another ecm from something off warranty, then if it blows swap them back in case the ecm logs a code for lean a/f ratio etc etc then the dealer would just look and see ur ecm that was on ur friends stocker and not notice anything abnormal that would void warranty. with the 4 yr warranty it makes it tempting to boost the heck out of a sled and not have to worry about parts costs if u grenade it. I still like the lighter xp chassis tho. I much rather do all my own work if they would supply parts, as im much faster, and I know its done right. I work on million dollar cat engines for a living. its usually not the case as far as ive heard tho because the dealer in golden at least I know wont give warranty on a short block unless they install it. at least that's what they told me. 3K$ for new shor block. forge that, ill take my chances and build my own. yes my turbo runs flawless now from 4k ft to 9500 ft. thanks for askin.
