LET'S GET THE WORD OUT!!!

If you are reading this thread, pass it on to everyone you know! Anyone that you might even consider would head to the backcountry. Any hills that have enough snow to ride on are extremely hazardous right now. Way too many posts about fellow sledders being buried, and it's not even January. IMO I don't care how well trained you are, what equipment you have, or how familiar you are with the terrain, we have to recognize that we are not in mid-winter riding conditions. Please, please pass the word to anyone you know that rides to stay away from the hills until we can at least get a decent base. I too am very excited to see all the snow falling, but we need to calm ourselves before this year becomes a total nightmare. Thoughts and prayers to those already struck by tragedy. Live to ride, ride to live.....

agreed rmk, A big group of us are heading to Island Park wednesday for 5 days. Hope everyone stays safe and out of danger.

everyone needs to use common sense

yep

Our group is very safe about avalanches, but we had a incident this weekend. We rode the same area for hours on the same slopes. It was very wind blown and the slopes were very moderate. One of our guys hit this slope when it gave way under him. It was about 40 ft wide, slid approx 60 ft, and was over 8 ft deep when it stopped. Scary. Be safe out there for sure.

yeah, getting horrible around here, about 4 feet of bottomless pow and now about a foot of the heaviest snow i have seen in a while, gonna be SUPER dangerous for sure!!

Just got back from IP. Jump off the sled and sink to the arm pits - standin on dirt. Never seen it so bottomless. Sleds stuck all over. It was starting to warm yesterday as we were leaving. That will create a giant slab once it sets. Be safe.
