Wanted 3 inch or bigger track for my snow bike!

We have seen the benefit of larger paddles. I don't want to go longer or wider with my track. I have a 137 inch 12.5. I love it. But I would definitely like shorter with the same deep snow/climbing ability. I bet a 129 10 inch wide track with a three or 3.5 inch paddle would crush my track.
No I am not a hill climber. I get very technical in steep treed terrain however. Bikes need to be agile but I think there is a lot to gain from larger paddles, at least in the terrain i ride in. I hope the manufacturers have this in mind with design and clearance issues.
 
traction is action

3 or 4 is where this is going, takes awhile to herd the naysayers thata way. couple of year it was funny hearing the foot dragger say more than 2" of traction would kill a snow bike.

If I could buy a 3 short, I'd be there now.
 
I've been thinking the same thing, since we don't have track speed it would be great to have traction. I was going to try to find a 3" track for my sxlt over the summer.
exactly! If you can't spin it fast, make it hook. Same reason a 50hp tractor with some serious tires and gear reduction will just walk through snow and mud with ease and your 500hp truck with "mud" tires on it is stuck in 5ft.

Also given how the curve track has proven to be such a vast improvement, we can have taller paddles, more traction, AND better handling.

Nice! What length? Did you an idea how it performed?
 
So...you listening camoplast? Why don't we say 3.5. Please make it fairly stiff too like the skidoo's. Spinning out with a soft track on hardened old sled tracks rocks and logs sucks.
I guess we need to curve it too. Although i do feel sometimes i am giving up a bunch of deep snow performance by having my lugs shaved. I gusss the trail/firm snow riding makes up for it but i do sometimes wish i could compare a rounded paddle to a non-rounded paddle track side by side.
Finally, and this might be the toughest...please don't price it the same as your 174 inch 3.2. I mean, we're talking about half as much material here!

Not sure on length, was atleast LT length, likely longer though.
Was on a turbo ktm, didn't get to see deep snow performance. It didn't do as well as he wanted on the hard pack obviously.

Most of the fresh powder conditions I was in this year I could see having large paddles. My 2.5 does fairly well, but I could utilize another half inch with the power I have. But what happens when you don't have those powder conditions?

Probably right. I was thinking specifically turning back uphill and not having my corner of the paddle there. The trade-off of the rounded track is probably much greater.

I don't think it would make that much difference on the hard pack. A little for sure. That's one reason I want the paddles to be fairly stiff though. Your 2.5 does fine on the hard pack right? As far as I know the guys in the Midwest are happy with it. Yes, we have had a fantastic snow year so far but every day I have ridden this year I think I would've benefited from at least a 3 inch paddle. I'm usually Boondocking within about 500 feet of the truck. I guess maybe the larger paddle could be an option for some of us. Kind of like polaris did this year. I sure haven't heard anybody complain about their T3 however.
OK Camoplast, just sell us the 3 inch this year. Then you can sell us the 3.5 the year after that!

I think a 129 3 or taller , profiled would give all kinds better loose snow performance and better handling, and thats what most riders are looking for.

25 years ago before good tracks, it was TRACK SPEED, but................ better 20mph track speed hooked than 50 spinning, been there proved that.
 
Just throwing this out there but anyone remember the old simmons bolt on lugs? What if there were some made for the snowbike tracks that went over the existing lug? Can the current kits even run a 3 in lug? how big can they go?
 
I think the taller lug could for sure help but don't you guys think there may be a limit to the length before there isn't an advantage? Adding more weight and structure to each lug to keep it rigid enough. Or they get too long where it just lays over like we saw the first gen yeti tracks do?
 
Well my thought is this... If you have a turbo you are rivaling the hp of a normally aspirated sled at altitude... So it should help a lot. Especially if you have blower type snow

It sounds like the Yeti tracks were too soft. I never rode one though. The 3" skidoo tracks definitely don't lay over. There might be a point of diminishing returns with lug height, but i don't think 3" is it. Plus, i'm kind of hoping to run a shorter track with a taller lug and have the same deep snow performance in a sportier setup.
 
I'm sure that Camso would build some 3" tracks for bikes. The problem is that they don't know what the demand is. I'm pretty sure that if you guys got together an order for 75-100 tracks at $700 a piece they would make what you want. Otherwise you'll have to wait until some OEM takes the financial risk.

I have talked to them briefly about this. It would take some organization, but it could be done.
