Want to head to CO for the first time in April... Advice Needed

I have ridden the snowies a bunch over the past 3 seasons and want to try something new without the 24+ hour drive from Wisconsin to Cooke City, Togwotee, Montana, Idaho etc. Seems just west of Denver is dang near the same distance away as the snowies (blowies). I would be out there for a full week. We are looking for info on where to both stay and ride. We dont mind trailering up the hill within reasonable distance if there is a decent place to park and turn around. Would love to stay somewhere with decent access to fuel, food/bar, and Nitrous fills would be a plus... LOL. Any tips, suggestions are greatly appreciated. The only area I know about is Rabbit Ears, but hear there are many others that are great as well in the area. Where should I be looking to base out of?

Thanks,

I make the trip from WI to Thunder Mountain Lodge in about 20-21 hrs. Guys from the twin cities tell me 18 hrs. Chicago about the same. We have just what you are looking for. Where you coming from in WI. Special spring pricing for fellow cheeseheads. You won't be disappointed!

I have also made the trip to Thunder Mountain Lodge from Wisconsin. TML is a great place with great food, hospitality, and of course bar. Has fuel right there at the lodge and plenty of places to turn around.

I would definitley hit up Mark (Cannonman) for more info!

Trip to TML

I cannot tell you about the drive. But I can tell you that you will not be disapointed with the food that I will be serving you when you make it here. It just started snowing out about a hour ago.

In April I would want to get high up and although it is a bit of extra driving for sure 4-5 hours extra from Denver , Grand Mesa up there isn't a bad bet at all. They get a lot of those Spring time storms when others don't get much.

My two cents is to sled east of the lodge.

We usually do Electric Mountain lodge mid-season as it is closer for us, but that late in the season I would have to 2nd the Thunder Mountain Lodge as you are starting and staying at max altitude. They'll have PLENTY OF SNOW.

Hydrate well as you are sleeping at 10,200 feet. That can really mess with flatlanders.
