Want Tether to Work Attached, works only when pulled

I bought a ProArmor tether kill switch (the T handle style) for my Yamaha Apex MXT 07 and my problem is that after I disconnected the stock kill switch and routed the new kill switch wires through the tether it only works when the tether is pulled not with the tether still attached like the way my old switch worked. I want it to work with the tether still attached.

There are no instructions, called the manufacturer, who said they don't design them for snowmobiles and that they run the through the stater, not where I have it installed. I think when the tether is attached it creates an open circuit and when the tether is pulled it forms a closed circuit, correct?

I haven't installed a switch like this before - has someone done this in the same way that I've described that I'd like to keep it, or can it be installed through the stater (or whereever)?

TIA

rockey13,
You need a normally closed tether switch for four stroke Yamahas. A normally closed tether switch will have closed contacts when the tether is clipped, then the circuit will open when the tether is pulled.
To wire it in, you can just cut one of the wires to the factory kill switch and connect the tether switch leads to the cut wires (wired in series with the kill switch)

Bill said it well. This is why all OFT tethers have a relay, even our non ROV model. We utilize the Pro Armor but the relay changes it from a normally open to a normally closed.
