Walter Cronkite died!

Early on he was fired from a radio station, his boss said he'd never make it as an announcer!

Strange, 40 years to the day when Walter was on live , non stop coverage, TV following the Appollo moon landing.

I stayed up all nite watching the coverage, and when Walter narrated the live landing. "One giant step....... " ...............you know the rest.

My 13 yr old step kid fell asleep on the couch and was so sound asleep I couldn't wake him up to see it. LOL.

it's sad to see another great american icon pass away. My dad told me about watching apollo 13 at school for a week when he was younger and watching walter report on it.

remember 40 years ago well, the ol' man went out and bought a color TV just for it. Our 1st color TV compliments of landing on the moon!

I watched him every night as a kid with my mom and dad. An American Icon. That was back when a news caster delivered the news in a clear and concise manner. Not like the crap these days where you have to listen to every announcers opinion between stories. R.I.P Walter. You were the best.

Was talking to a friend about just that point last night and it is strange.

I can think of at least 5 instances earlier in my life that I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing at the time, and Walter was there. I saw a poll asking if he was the best anchor ever....by the results I see where we still have some of the Greatest generation left, since the only other support was about 7% to(WSU Coug) Edward R Murrow.
