Walker Evans Shocks or Fox

I was thinking of uprgrading the shocks on my 09 assault, would i be better off to have the originals revalved or to spend the extra on the fox floats? If i do go the route of getting the originals revalved who would you recomend? is there anyone in Canada who offers this service? Will this increase the mobility of the sled if the shocks are a little softer? Thanks.

Walkers are a joke,How can you dial in a shock to suit someone who weighs 130 lbs and expect same setup work for a 260 lbs guy,Besides they lose pressure over time like any pressure shock. Fox E-vol,s .adjust for your weight ,level the sled and your done

Or....go with coil over W/E shocks. You can get all kinds of single, dual, and tri-rate springs for the Walkers and still have 16 positions of adjustment for half the money. Ever see what happens when an air shock looses a seal while riding? Yep, the sled drops to the ground and your day is about over.

I have 5 years on the Fox. and check the air 2 times per season. 0 failures.10,000 miles of hard mountain riding.Your correct the coil over is cheaper though.Guess the main point is the stock Walkers are a joke.

I agree Fox makes great shocks. The high end adjustable airs are just out of most guys price range. Stock WE airs just need a slight knick in the shaft and down you go. You can tell machinest660 is trying to save a few bucks by revalving, which is an option that will work. Fabcraft can cutomize his shocks to fit his needs if that is a route he wants to go also.

i have a set of Walker Evans needle shocks and love them, they were set up by Max at Tri-city Performance and they are the best shocks i have ran period. they work great in all conditions and only take seconds to adjust. i'll agree that the WE air shocks are a joke for real mountain riding, but the Needles are the real deal!

Are you running fronts and backs also or just the fronts. If you have them on the back do they help at all with keeping your front end down? I am putting a turbo on my D8 155 and wondering if they will help with keeping the front down. Thanks

The only thing you can do to keep a stock geometry down on a turbo is ruin the handling in all the rest of your riding by setup. Jeremy has an aftermarket rear suspension. HOLZ and Timbersled offer options that will offer you performance in all arenas with zero sacrefice.

FYI gang..if you have the money there is not a finer combo then the FOX EVOL air shocks for mtn sleds. Ridden them all and messed with multiple settings of most of the adjustable shocks so I'm not spouting sales rederic.

Factor weight, adjustability, durability, servicability, performance....FOX EVOL offers them all..and when you calculate cost of premium shocks into factor a decision it's even more obvious.

I can have any shock I want on my sleds. I choose FOX. Chris Burandt can have any shock he wants on his sleds. He chooses FOX. Jack Struthers (widely noted as one of the world's foremost suspension experts from his hall of fame racing career to running one of the world's most successful Polaris dealerships) can have and SELL any shock he wants. HE CHOOSES FOX!

A special public "Thank You" goes out to F-bomb from me.

Question for Jeremy and Rob...

Are you guys running the front sway bar still?

no sway bar here, second best thing (to better boards/bars) i've ever done to my chassis was ditch the sway bar

2 season and probubly 3000-4000 miles on a set of used fox evol shocks and have yet to loose a seal... FOx all the way!

Thanks for all the replies guys. I will definalty be doing the fox shocks. Gonna try to find a used set and if i cant will buy some new ones. Any preference on what dealer to buy from????

i am in the process of looking for some fox float 2's as well. I have contacted 2 kool performance and there price is $695 plus tax with free shipping. there located in ontario so thats canadian dollar. best price i have found.

also, a hollow tube that is 1.5" OD is alot stronger than a hollow or solid tube that is 5/8" thick...

When i have went through 3 or 4 sets of a-arms nad have yout to bend or damage my floats ( KNOCK ON WOOOOOOD! )

For my IQ RAW sleds I always leave the sway bar assembly in place. How they perform is a combo of both your suspensions (front and rear) and obiously which shock package you run. I have done some pretty extensive testing without the sway bar on the 09 with EVOL X front and ALPHA-X rear and it was a brutal handful in extremely wild climbing conditions. It changed the behavior so dramatically that I considered it a serious setback. This chassis is so easy to get and hold an edge on that I couldn't really see any benefit to running sway less. Also while these aren't trail machines I still have to ride some trail in and out and I want to have a rocket all of the time. The raw is a terrible trail machine with it's inconsistant front balance so by having the shocks setup the way I do for good free riding it's a dangerous mofo on the trail or wild woops at speed. Now different shocks and different rear suspension setups can give you a totally different feel or experience with or without the sway bar. Mine comes solely from the floats on one sled with the old style sway system and then the evol setups with the new sway system. Of course back in the day with edge and sprung shocks we always pulled the sway bar. Occasionally I get to go back to those sleds to make me appreciate how wonderful the new sleds really are!
