Walker Evans shock trouble

I have the walker Evans shocks that came stock on my 08 d7 and they seem to be really saggy and don't rebound like they should. My front end sits lower than any iq I have seen. From what I know either the gas needs recharged or they need a full service. What do you guys recommend? Not sure if this was the cause but my last ride of the year my sway bar snapped in half and it was a real pain to ride with weak shocks and no sway bar. If I have the fronts serviced sb old I send in the rear shock for peace of mind? Sled has about 2300 miles I put a 1000 on this year and they just got worse as the year went on

So if I were to get new shocks would it be best to get front and rear? What is the difference between raptor and fox?

I would get the full set, but go with the ski shocks first if you can't afford a full front and rear set.

The obvious difference is Fox floats use air pres, like the WE as the spring. Raptors use a triple rate coil spring. Call Kevin, he sells both types and can answer any questions you may have - you can also send him a PM on the forum - user ID is KMOD. He's a great guy to work with.

I have now replaced all of the float2 shocks on my sled in favor of Raptor shocks. I got really tired of the pain of checking the pressures and also wanted a better shock.

I have a near full set of new take offs that Carls rebuilt / recharged before I bought them. Sell them for $200.00, I used one of the fronts to get a friend out of the back country here in AK and haven't gotten it back yet. A proper charge makes a world difference.

You need to either do a full service on all of your shocks, or replace them. Those were good shocks back in the day, but now there are many better choices for not much more money than what the full service will cost you. My 07D7 came with the same shocks, I replaced all of them two seasons ago with WE remote reservoir's and dual rate springs from Tri-City Performance. They set them up any way you like. Raptor shocks from KMOD are also a great deal.

How much would a full service cost for all the shocks? Sounds like if i want to get new shocks i should consider fox, raptor or different WE. Whats the price difference in those three? If i could just have them serviced and save some money i would rather do that to do a different mod. My dad has a spare set of the same WE shocks that are on mine that i could get for cheap but not sure if they would be much better. And with different aftermarket shocks do you run a sway bar with them?

my current preference is Exit Shocks but have heard good things about the Raptor's also. For either of those you will be ponying up about $2000 for a full set. The Fox's are likely cheaper depending on weather you go with their air shocks or sprung shocks. Ultimately it would be cheaper to buy the set I have than even rebuild the ones you have. Your call.

Full servicing cost will very depending on local and how much effort they put into the service. Up here, it costs around $100 a shock. If you are looking a saving money on a new set, Fox Zero Pro's are a good shock at a reasonable price (check out Carls for pricing). I've always left the swaybar in and let the suspension work as designed. I don't like riding with a stiff front suspension, so removign the swaybar was never a consideration.

I have WE floats on my 09 d8 and I just had them recharged last season cuz they were sagging. I had them done locally for $100 for all four shocks. So you can get them recharged for alot cheaper than buying aftermarket. Although the aftermarket ones would be a huge upgrade!

Loudhandle, what kind of shocks do you have? WE, fox floats, zero pros? I'd be interested!

They are new original WE air shocks that Carl's took off of customers sled when they upgraded. He then swapped the vavle stack for Fox shims (Walker's were very inconsistent, at least back then) and recharged with new oil and nitrogen to a few pounds more than they came with stock to make them perform better. I bought two sets at the time and due to an ugly divorce they sat on the shelf until this year, sold the other set to a neighbor who's sled was suffering the same fate and he said the sled rides much better than it did when brand new. If you don't buy this set, I highly recommend a Carl's rebuild / upgrade!

Well sounds like it need to make some phone calls to Carl's, tri-city and kmod and see about upgrading or even just servicing mine. Those shocks that we redone by Carls sound like something to look into. Someone mentioned 2000 for a set that would definetly be more than I'm looking to spend haha. I'll make some calls and see if I could get some for under a grand, maybe a used set? If that can't be done I'll just get mine serviced by someone, I think a recharge would be fine but might as well get a full service so they are ready to go

The best set-up for the money we have found for the rear skid has been the Carl's Cycle kit's. The fox shock kit for the rear skid consists of a float for the front and a Zero Pro with remote resevoir for the rear. This kit still uses the factory torsion springs. The 5 IQ-RAW sled's in my group are all running this set-up.

I will have a set for sale in about a month that have 1 season on them and about 250 miles. The kit in the picture below is of a zero pro shock for the front of the rear skid. Mine is a float.

As for the front shocks, you get what you pay for. Unless you are hucking big drops and kicker's constantly, then there is nothing wrong with the fox float's. For the money, they are a great performing shock.

I can tell you that the money spent is better spent on upgrading the shocks then it is on reworking shocks that were never really designed to be in cold weather.
