Walker Evans rear track shock fold and break

Was out riding yesterday and got about three miles up the trail and came off a bump not going very fast landed heard a weird sounding thunk form the rear suspension, so I got off my sled and looked and the rear track shock had broken off from the bottom and bent in the middle (see pics) of the main body of the shock. Got back down the trail fine, and when I got back I called a dealer asked him to price one out for me and he told me that it would be almost $500 to buy a new one. I really don't want to buy a new one so I'm looking for a used one, and any thoughts anyone might have on why it broke like that. P1010332.jpg

That's really more than I want to spend I was hoping to just find a used one, but so far I haven't found one. I found a single fox zero pro on ebay would that work if I left the front track shock the walker evans.

It should work fine if it's still "good".

Ticking time bombs

Well young sir it looks like one of the ticking time bombs let loose on your machine Everything we see is moving from order to disorder. All of our machines are quickly coming apart, some just quicker then others. All we can do is just prop up and maintain our machines as best we can and hope and pray for the best. Thankfully we will not have to deal with broken primary spiders, tweaked out CDI boxes, and exploded shocks in heaven. Sno going is a blast on this earth but these frail machines should help us to turn our eyes to God's kingdom were everything will be perfect. God speed in finding a shock for less then a new one.

As to why it broke in the 1st place I'm sure the seal on the shaft was leaking and you got water in it. Happens alot on older shocks. Water will not compress as much as air. When you try to make it, ugly things happen! Keep your eyes open. You should be able to come up with some stock take off's pretty cheap. Alot of people up graded their shocks without ever running them.
Good luck.

And if you are still running the stock rear torsion springs then upgrade them as well to heavier .405's or .375/47*'s, constant bottoming isn't good. Find a good piggyback clicker shock, ebay has plenty. Even one off an Edge, Edge RMK will fit. Fox Zero Pro or Ryde FX is an upgrade.

Thanks for all the info. So now my question is what do you recommend I replace it with? It sounds like either ryde fx or fox zeros are an upgrade from the walker evans, or should I just stick with the walker evans?

Thanks for all the info, I found a fox zero pro on Ebay and bought that. This morning I talked to a service guy at WE and he said what you guys had already said that there was water and that that was what caused it to explode, and that it also might have had ice in it. I asked him what it would cost to replace, and he said $250 it turned out that the dealer I talked to had priced me the wrong shock,a clicker shock instead of just the monotube like what was on my sled.
