Wanted to share this situation with those who have an 07 m 1000 and are going to put on the boondocker turbo kit. We were supplied a new fuel pump from Boondocker Walbro gss242 to replace the stock pump. Here is the scoop:
Switched out the pump and the sled would no longer start. Pulled fuel line off and learned that there was no fuel pressure. Strange thing was the pump was getting good power to it. I took the pump out again and gave it a quick shot of power on the bench with a power supply to make sure it ran. It did run when it had direct power on the bench. Put the pump back in again and it still would not push fuel through the line.
I then took the power supply and hooked it up directly to the pump harness. Now I could hear the pump running, but still no fuel. I decided to reverse polarity to maybe prime it and suddenly fuel shot from the line.
Here is the strange part........this fuel pump was built from the factory with the polarity reversed. I then took the harness apart where it plugs into the top of the pump and reversed the connectors. Re-nstalled the pump and the sled fired up. It was not long befopre it would not run again at idle. the only way I could get it to run now was to crank up the low fuel setting at 3000 to positive 50.
I then figured that this pump was screwed so I put the original one back in and the sled runs again at negative 5 on the low setting.
So...........any one who gets one of these pumps had better do a bench test with some fuel to make sure it is operating correctly. I am not sure, but maybe the reverse polarity it was running on screwed it up as it no longer produced the required pressure to run the sled.
Should be interesting when we get the replacement one from Boondocker.
