State Parks Update
By Pamela McConkey, State Parks Winter Recreation Program Manager
Here’s how it works:
You register your snowmobile in November 2012 and you receive a Sno-Park Permit at no extra cost. (You then enjoy the 2012/2013
winter season without any worry of a citation for not being registered
and having a sno-park permit.)
$30.00 of your registration fee is put into a dedicated account for
the Snowmobile Program.
The gas tax formula is applied: one hundred thirty-five gallons
as the average yearly fuel usage per snowmobile, times the number
of registered snowmobiles during the calendar year under determination,
times a fuel tax rate of twenty three cents per gallon of
motor vehicle fuel.
So for your one snowmobile you have provided approximately
$60.00 to the dedicated Snowmobile Program.
That money is then available for the following winter season
(2013/2014).
If you don’t register your snowmobile for the coming 2012/2013
winter season, it will be that much less money available for trail
grooming, snow removal, sanitation, administration, education and
enforcement for the 2013/2014 winter season.
Your snowmobile registration funds your program.
***Number of sleds registered for 11/12 season (last Season) = 28,426***
