I have a 2011 assault rmk and I have narrowed my searching for what wrong down to the voltage regulator but im looking and it says theres 2 regulators and I know the vol reg is in front of the oil on the clutch cover but now im confused looking at this?? In the pic would it be 6 and 8 or 16? I know dumb question but I don't wanna get something I don't need ha thanks

Is your lighting and handwarmers circuit down?

Or did the sled stop running?

.

When my voltage regulator went out, it was intermittent. After about 10-15 miles into the ride, my battery icon would begin to flash while at speed. The icon would disappear at idle but the engine light would come on. My backlight in the dash would also flicker. My headlights were a little dim. I never experienced any performance issues, but didn't ride it much when it was having problems. I did not know there were two V/R's

for model years 11 and 12 there is 2 VR, the one for your ac/dc is #4010794, that one runs all power for lights, grip heaters gauge and so on, the other one is for the ecm i believe, if that ones bad i dont think the sled will run

Thanks guys and MH I don't remember but I do believe my handwRmers were working but tomorrow I'm gonna take it out and see if it dies in about 20 mins but from what I have been reading I have all the symptoms of my v/r going bad

My sled ran fine for 30 mins then I hit DET so I shut my sled off and put 110 octane In (I have an rk tek drop in kit In with 14.1 domes) and my problem went away for 45 mins. Then my sled bogged down to where it seemed like it was running on one cylinder so I put new plugs in and let it sit bout 10 mins then went down the trail a mile and climbed a hill and on my way down it bogged down and shut down. It wouldn't start for awhile then 20 mins later it started right up for 30 secs then shut down again. Btw I have a headlight delete so do u think I would need a resistor?

On the PRO RMK, which has the DC-CFi2 injection system, the regulator that supplies the headlights is a separate device from what controls the engine function.
They do not affect each other and also have completely separate stator coils feeding them power.

If you believe that the VR for your engine is acting up... Then the part number for that is 4012263... and cost is just under $100....

In the parts diagram you are referring to .. #6 is the Capacitor for the ECU VR, #8 is the ECU VR (3 phase).... #16 is the lighting/handwarmer VR (AC/DC).

On the 2011 both regulators are physically separate and in different locations... The ECU/ignition/injection regulator is mounted to the clutch guard cover...The lighting/handwarmer VR is is mounted to the right hand (exhaust side of the sled) on the steering support overstructure near the front. On the 2013/14 models... the VR's are still "electrically separate" BUT they are contained in the same housing mounted to the clutch guard.

BTW... Did you check your ground connection "bundles" at the front bumper mounting bolt inside the hood on the overstructure?? If you took any hits to the front bumper, you could have cracked that and no longer have a good ground.

There are many things that could be causing you problems... changing out parts till you fix it could get costly if you don't know what you are "fixing".

Thanks MH that helps out a lot! Ill take a look at it tonight after work and post what I find but I looked at some wires last night and everything looked good but I will check the ground tonight

Last month I pulled every connector and greased them so they shouldn't have ice in them or I would hope not ha

So took my sled out today for 40 mins and it ran good for 40 mins but I'm back in Minnesota and I still have my mountain weights in so I didn't reAlly get on it but does that matter? So I think I might by the voltage reg and then if it happens again out west I can swap that out and hope it solves the problem
