Voltage Regulator quality

I need a new voltage regulator and was wondering if the aftermarket regulators are of higher quality than the OEM? There is a significant cost savings over the OEM. what have most of you here used to replace your failed VR's?

i've had them go out on all different year rmk's at work. this particular one is my '08 800. my understanding is that they are interchangable after '07 unless you have the non stacked smaller VR. That's why i'm asking in the pro forum.

The bubbles on the bottom of the VR gave me pause. i suspect this may be the cause of the limp mode i keep getting into while on trail. the ECU still appears to be ok and i have not noticed any problems with the lights or heaters.

I guess it would be possible that you could go with an aftermarket setup... but it would be pretty complicated... with the the separate DC and AC sections... the voltage boost and other sections.

The 2008 system was Three-Phase... the Pro RMK's in this section are single phase.... CFi-4 compared to DC-CFi-2.
The two different systems are not compatible.

There were some problematic VR's on the Dragons... that is certain... but, unless the system has been modded with headlight delete, strange lighting configurations, fan motors or electric pumps not hooked up in a well-thought-out way... the 2011 through current VR's have not had a lot of complaints... yes, some failures..but not problematic overall.

MH, so the 08-10 model 800's use PN/4013587, which is also the currently manufactured by spi and possibly another company sold thru MFG supply. do you think either of these would be a quality replacement or is OE the only way to keep it running?

I don't think that i'm electrically inclined enough to build my own VR

here are my options that i know of:

http://www.mfgsupply.com/4013587-voltage-regulator.html $90

http://www.powersportparts.net/Prod...Code=12-3082&gclid=CMei_Pmknb4CFS9o7Aoddn0ANw $70

dealer has OEM for $156
