Voltage regulator failing

Ok, I think I know the answer but I'm asking anyway.

Friend has a 2010 Dragon 800. On the ride today the gauge started going haywire, would go out, would read funky readings. Motor also would miss and stutter and not pull full rpms. Stop and let it sit for a few minutes and it would be ok until things got warmed back up. Finally by the end of the ride even that wouldn't reset it to normal operation.

I'm assuming VR is going bad. True?

And if it still runs, although poorly, does that mean they caught it before it damaged the computer?

Thanks,

Yep, VR. You can still possibly damage the ecu and have a running sled. Change out the VR before doing anymore riding and see how it does.

Similar symptoms on my 2010 700 , took it to the dealer it was the VR, as far as I can tell didn't damage the ECU had it out for one ride since ran fine.
