Voltage problem !!!

High Voltage

OK 2006 800 Summit. The last day of our trip the sled ran like crap after I turned on the hand warmers, turned them back off ran great. So I replaced the accessories relay no change, then tried a friends voltage regulator still no change.

The voltage readings I get are all taken at 2500 rpm 13.3 lowbeam on, 12.0 highbeam on, and 8.1 with highbeam and handwarmers on. The tac. will drop to 0 and the lights on gauge blink with the beep beep in between turning from low to highbeams and vis versa.

I also took voltage readings from stator at the plug befor the regulator. The readings were 3.1 vac on all three phases, book says 3.6 vac between phases. All phases were .2 to.3 ohms book says 0 to .5 ohms.

Well any ideas on what the problem could be? Weak stator, or do I have another load on the system? Thanks Nick

Sounds to me like the accessories' circuit has a ground problem. Check the steering harness connection, at the handlebars and under the dash.
Is it a PowerTek? if so, check the ECU connection up front for moisture or corrosion.

Are the warmers operating correctly? Could have a possible short in warmers; sounds like too much voltage draw or a bad ground when the warmers are switched on.

warmers

just went trough this on buddys 06 880X, intermitant warmers and eratic tach and warning lights. changed relays same thing, changed out warmers and all is good.

Thanks for the replies! The hand warmers don't get very warm anyway so I will start there. Thanks Nick

My sled has pretty much the same issues. I have it narrowed down to the stator, but I haven't changed it yet so I won't know 100% until I do.

If You do a search on dootalk You will find this is a fairly common thing. Most guys just talk/complain about it, though. The only thread I found where someone had actually fixed the problem was a guy who replaced his stator and then all was good.

I guess I will put in a new stator my dealer has seen weak ones also. Has anyone replaced one is there much to it ? I guess I'm about to find out !

Had my stator tested by RMstator and it tested bad. Its feels good to find the problem, but it sucked getting the stator out !!!!!!!
