volatge regulator.

Wondering what u guys out there think 08 D8 BD PG turbo. Sled fires up and runs fine. At an idle I loose the display. Rev it up comes back on. Turn off hot grips display comes back on. I was think VR wanted your guys opinion Thx
 
i agree with above.... sounds like VR is doing it's job.... it's not getting any power to do it with.
check the stator output.
 
I had a similar issue. What's your volt gauge saying? It should only drop a bar or two at the most at idle (1800).
After replacing both the VR and the Stator it turned out the problem was as simple as a bad connection in the plug at the relay next to the VR. There was a little bit of corrosion in the plug. Some cleaning and a little Nygel and it was fixed. I now have a spare VR and Stator on the shelf!
 
Thx for all the info guys it lead me down the right track. It was putting out proper voltage so we started think short to ground. well we were both right and both wrong. Popped the stator out and found what looks to be a peice of a rivet welded to the stator. Causing a short. so replaced the stator and off and running.. Again thx for all the info out there. it really did help.
 
09 d8 not running

Have a 09 Dragon 800 that is also doing about the same but will run then lights go dim loose dash gauges then die. Then I can start it right back up, run down the trail a ways and then it does same thing over again. Any thoughts what could be wrong with mine?
 
I acctually ended finding a broken washer had gotten in the stator from when I rolled it over once and was shorting to ground replaced the stator off and running.

Sounds like a defective voltage regulator or a sort to ground in one of the other many "Unfused" electrical components.

All CFI-4 owners should keep a voltage reg in their back pack.
