Does anyone else have excessive play in the bushing at the top of the tripod? I only got a few rides on mine and it feels pretty bad.

OFT used to have a fix for the nytro bushings, do they have anything for the viper?

I put a set of oft bushings/blocks in my viper last season after couple rides they have the same slop as the plastic junk

OFT Racing Steering block for Yamaha Viper 2014-15

These billet steering blocks replace the wear prone plastic oem blocks on Yamaha steering shafts. Machined from 6061 t6 aluminum, and featuring "super oilite" bushings, these blocks will probably last longer than your sled. the best part is, you never have to lube them! These blocks work exceptionally well with the high temps associated with front or mid-mount turbos too!

X2 as above. I have the OFT bushing with plenty of slop as well.

I actually got oft to send me a second set for the upper housing as the first set were sloppy after first weekend of riding thought maybe they were just machined/made oversized but the second set I put in are the same tons of clearance after a few kms.. Its really annoying having all that slop in bars

weird i have a ton of miles on my nytro ones & they are still perfect, could the slop be coming from somewhere else in the steering?

I wonder if it is the geometry involved with the u joint?

Wouldn't think so. I put a BDX post on my Nytro last year and have about 600 miles on that post with no play. Although that post does use actual sealed bearings instead of using plastic/oilite bushings.

I got a ton of slop very quickly from the bolt on the bottom side of the steering post, tore it apart twice, but I run a heavy steering setup which doesn't help

That is a known issue on some of the Proclimb chassis was even a TSB on Cat, one of our Vipers was loose other is fine. Pull rubber boot on right side tie rod and reach in and try to tighten the nut on the bottom of the steering shaft. If it is loose take it off and locktite it and put back on.

Do you have this on your viper christopher? Will this fix the slop? Also, this is for the bottom mount right?

I have a lot of play in my steering with OFT. Someone needs to come out with a better steering support with dual sealed bearings like BDX did on the nytro. It does seem to be very strong the way it is right now.

I have used the Wild Child and the OFT bushings with great success on the Viper and the M1100T.

What I have found is that keeping the top bushings clamp tight is vital. Once it gets loose and starts to wobble then you will have problems with anything. Another thing I have seen is if the clamp itself is worn, then a new bushing system is all for naught.

Have sold and used the OFT upper and lower bushings last winter and worked fine. If the upper is not tight when we install them we go thru all the tightening points on the rest of the steering linkage. Most have play if they aren't new. If we get everything all tightened up and the upper still has play we hand sand some off both sides of the contact surfaces of the bushing and the halves of the tripod. You can make it perfect, just don't take too much off, it doesn't take much.
