viper short track vs. mtn gearing???

i need to know what the stock gearing and chain length is for:
121 viper
144 viper
reason is a friend has converted 121 to 144 and and wants to gear for mtn riding. thanks guys

Viper (trail 121) was geared 22/38 with a 68 inch chain.
Viper Mtn (144) was geared 21/40 with a 70 inch chain.

If the teeth on your gears add up to 60 or less you need a 68" chain. If they add up to 61 or more you need a 70" chain.

The gear ratio for all Vipers was based off the 9 tooth Viper trail track drivers. However, the Viper Mtn came with 8 tooth drivers therefore was "geared down" a little straight from the factory.

What rynokron said is true.

IIRC the shaft is 27mm (1.06") measured from accross the points. Not the flats. I believe I have a set of OEM 8T 2.52's that came off my Mtn Viper at around 600 miles. If your interested I can look for them and send them to you. Some guys will tell you not to reuse track drivers so depending on how you feel about that.... ??? I personally have done it in the past with out any problem. They were presed off with care. Your call.
