Viper MTX

It has to be a huge improvement over the Nytro but I'm guessing nothing more than a cat with better engine.

With the execption of the vertical steering and Gripper skis, I built the same basic sled using a XF7000 and factory Proclimb parts.
Handling wise it feels similar to a 2 stroke sled and responds well to rider input. Ride quality is good.
The power band is wide and the 2.6" Powerclaw track really hooks up. Overall IMO a pretty good sled.:thumb:

any seat time on viper mtx

I was curious if anyone compared the viper mtx to nytro with aftermarket skid, track, and forward a arms. I would love to ride one for a day.

After getting to spend time on one yesterday I am very happy with what Yamaha did sled responds very good gets on top of the snow does not trench like yamaha's did in the past very light feeling and the turbo makes it all that much better I don't think there is no comparison to the Nytro... Finally a good mountain sled from Yamaha.....:thumb::thumb::thumb:

Except that its a rebadged CAT.
Maybe next year Yamaha can put out a "new sled" from Polaris or BRP - with tuning fork stickers & BNG of course - then Yamaha would have a fighting chance at gaining market share! I still cannot understand how a company as large as Yamaha with the massive R&D and tech knowledge base that it has could not develop a decent chassis in house. Looks like from here on there will only be three OEM's as it appears that Yamaha will be an engine supplier only.

On the upside, if Yamaha exits the sled market it would be free to sell Poo a big, new, dependable, 2 stroke to replace its 800.

Everything is rebadged in the US why should yamaha be held to a different standard

It is funny reading how many people are disappointed over the release of the new Yamaha viper MTX when in fact the only reason they are is they started to believe the hype that they themselves added to behind the keyboard With I hope this and i hope that.
Is the viper an improvement over the nytro? by all accounts Yes!!! is it better balanced sled? by all indications Yes. Does it have a better track under it? Yes Does it have better OEM running boards? Yes Most of the rest of it can all be debated but overall it is an improvement over what they had. Could it be a whole lot better? Absolutely. Will they continue to develop it? More then likely.
I tend to look at the bright side of things and not dwell on the the one or two negative things. i find life is a lot better when i do that. Just my opinion though.
I do have one question how the hell are they cooling these sleds with no rear cooler and with actually more heat under the hood with the exhaust up front? Was the Nytro just that inefficient at cooling? On a warm spring day in set up snow my nytro overheats really easy even with scratcher.

Cooling comes from the front mount heat exchanger and the radiator with fan up front it actually has more cooling compacity than the nytro. The new gauge has a temp gauge right on there when riding it I seen temps anywhere from 170-190. Turbo heat didn't seem to affect them..
I personally think the sled is going to be great.. I plan on purchasing one myself... Can't wait!!!!

The radiator appears to be larger and it feels like the fan pulls more air as well. So far mine does run cooler in marginal snow conditions, then my Nytro did.

my disappointment is WHY didn't they release this MTX last year????
same sled, made all parts last year,
I guess they didn't have the NEW MNT YAMAHA ready for 2015
maybe 2016

I have about 400 miles on my Viper XTX here is how it is equipped

270 MCX Turbo
Zbroz 38in front w/exit shocks stock 2014 cat spindle location
poo gripper skis
K-Mod rear skid with raptor shocks
Vanamburgh tunnel ext w/Boards
camoplast peak 162 w/2.5in paddles
Avid 2.86 antiratchet drivers
koso gauges
6.5 in riser

The Nytro I will compare to is mine that I have rode for 4000 miles

09 Nytro MTX
270 MCX turbo
Zbroz +3 front with gtyr shocks
EZ ryde rear skid with fox zeros
Camoplast 2 1/2 162 track
OFT steering relocate
3in avid anti ratchet drivers

My Nytro is absolutely dialed in and contrary to most peoples believe that it is to heavy it rides as light and handles as well as my 2012 Pro and I can ride thru trees with ez no matter how tight the trees.

The front mount turbo on Viper spools faster than my nytros but once on boost acts the same as nytro as far as power goes.

Chassis wise the viper gets on plane a tad faster and rolls up on side a little easier but once there I am chasing it just a little to keep weight balanced it has a smaller sweet spot than Nytro, going down hill in deep snow it is a little stubborn and steers and feels heavy compared to Nytro.

Now I don't feel as of yet that I have my Viper dialed in to me like I do my Nytro. I have my K-mod mounted in the 2014 position and from what I have been hearing from skinz and K-mod is pro climb is very sensitive to ride heights in rear. It was suggested to me buy both of them to mount the rear skid in 2012 position which they say will take away the heavy stubborn feeling, I am also putting on a 8.5 in riser.

My Nyto was a lot like the viper when I first got it and the plus 3 front was the best chassis improvement that can be made to Nytro IMO. With stock front it was extremely hard to pull over and almost impossible to stay on a side hill with plus 3 front it is way easier to pull over and you can side hill till cows come home and it is consistent every time where your weight placement is. I think that the heavy fronted sleds such as viper, nytro and 1100t benefit greatly buy moving spindles ahead. So I am going to put on a skinz concept +3 front on viper.

The Viper is a better chassis hands down than a stock nytro but it is not with after market parts. I am ordering a 2015 Viper with 180 mpi turbo for wife and I will be putting skinz front on that and leaving rear skid stock so I will be spending 2200 to get Viper to handle the way I want it to. I still like riding nytro, but I would never want to sling a leg over a apex again.

As far as over heating issues never have had one on the 5 turbo nytros in my family with about 17000 miles between them and no issues with Viper so far

Homeboy well said. My nytro is dialed in for me and I love it. I really can't get on a stock sled and be happy with it. I've been on all of them. Some don't require as much as others. Look at the pro rides sleds burandt, adams, kincaid, brown, rasmussen, junker, etc they a lot of mods on their sleds. Burandt and adams sledss have over 12k into them.
Before I buy a new sled I will need more ride time on a cat chassis. I might hold off another year or two before I buy a new sled. This year I put a skinz 37" front suspension. It made my nytro much easier to ride in trees, side hill and carve downhill. My cat friend was a little jealous. At the end of our rides he's worn out.
I recommend a narrow front suspension.

I really want to see what turbo kit comes out ahead of the rest and I want to see if there are any issues with them next year. I will probably spring check a 2016 if all goes well and put a nice size turbo kit on it.
