I was wondering if anyone has any tips for changes (gearing, clutching, helix, etc) I should make before going out west this year. Everything in the driveline is stock, besides the 156 track, and i just picked up some slp ceramic coated triples, so i am not sure how to set everything up. Most of my riding is done in the 8-10,000 range climbing and boondocking. any help or tips are greatly appreciated.

SLP setting are pretty close clutching wise. I would start with those. Use the baseline jetting for the pipes and let the veriflow do the work. I ran SLP triples on my Mountain Max with an ATAAC and it worked great with SLP clutching.

did you change the stock helix to a 43,(i think) as reccomended by slp? i know this made a big difference on maintaining target rpm's. anytime you go longer and higher, regearing makes a huge difference. 19/40 or even 18/40. both compatable with the stock 68 link chain.

I was running a 151 and their specs were for a 141 and i fouond them to be pretty darn good. Never hurts to gear down though. It can help keep the clutches cool as well.

You would be changing the top gear. Stock is 21/40 Stock Chain is 70P so you would need a 68P chain too

I more than likely have a chain and gear if you need them.

RXMax is correct on the stock gearing & chain for Mtn Viper. And, also as he said, gearing down never hurts. I'm riding at 3-6000 feet with SLP's and running 20/42 gearing. That way I didn't have to switch to a 68 link chain. I'm also running a 3 pitch 162" track so that adds into the drive ratio equation a little. In my secondary I have 48/42 helix with a Yamaha silver spring twisted up to 80 or 90*. My buddy ran a staight 43 helix with good results also.
