Viper Gearing?

2002 Viper
CPR pipes, Peak Head 22cc. ( can I run 19cc??)
144x16x2 8 tooth extrovert drivers
gears top: 19, 21, 22
bottom: 38, 41
@ ride: 60% Boondock, 30% hills, 10% trails
should I run 19/38 = 2.25 (I think I was told this is best??????)
or 21/41 = 2.20
or 19/41 = 2.43 too deep? will this be way to slow for the little
trails I ride? or really kill gas mileage LOL dont really want any worse!

I used to run 20/42 in the mountains, and 21/42 in the flatland. In both cases top speed was never a concern. 20/42 worked very well climbing. I run 20cc domes with one layer removed from the head gasket and never had any problems on premium fuel, but my engine had some different mods.

For the gears you have available, and what type of riding you like, go with the 19/38. The 19 is a bit of tight turn but not bad. That'd be my choice.

I would go with the 19/41 - 2.15 ratio. Saves on belts alot when boondocking.

19/41 will give me a ratio @ 2.41 WITH 8-TOOTH DRIVERS
19/38 " 2.25 "

Leaddog, Snake's right. Vipers gearing was based off 9T drivers. And even Mtn Viper gearing was based off 9T drivers although they all came with 8T. In my Viper (Mtn) I'm running 20/42 with 7T-3P drivers. Works out to 2.27. The sled gets around good. I ride about the same terran (% wise) as you Snake.

As far as the domes in your peak head... what elevation are you riding? I'm running 20cc domes and ride 3-6K feet. Premium pump gas. SLP pipes. No problems at all for 3 years.

I run 21/42 w/8T drivers on my SRX 151" - both in the steeps and back home. Lost some top end, but it stands on the bumper when you want to - Not to highjack the thread, but I have Peak heads and have not run the higher compression domes out west yet. Will this make a big difference? Headin to Cooke city on 3/7 and am thinking about swithing them.
