Vintage Mountain Backcountry Sledding, 1977-1980, 257 photos

This photo set has been very well received on other forums, lots of fun and great riding from way back! Stuckfests, jumps, powder, blue-bomber days, lake racing, technical mountain backcountry riding, and some impressive scenery shot with an old Kodak 110 camera.

Thanks for sharing those pics. I love just about anything vintage sledding related. I could listen to my grandpa talk for hours about sledding in the 70's and how much different it is from now. He has a ton of old pics too, but I doubt they will ever get scanned on to a computer.

way cool! Would love to have the Moto Ski Sonic or one of the Ski-Doo RVs.... Where were the races? It was back in the day when you could race your trail sled and didn't need a special race sled like now... I really like the stuck fest pics... my first sled: Moto Ski 250 Cadet.. I raced a 68 Scorpion 300

Yah doggone it I'm sure getting tempted to try and get one of those Super Sonics and mountain mod it myself - don't have time though. The races were held in a few places in Alberta: Buck Lake, Red Deer, Breton.

My first sled was a 1979 Ski-Doo Blizzard 5500.

Great pictures. I think everbody should have to ride a short track at least once in the backcountry to appreciate what we have now days. Now I'm going to have to go dig my old pictures of my first time out west in 95 Was 14 at the time and had a race spec xcr 440 with a 136 x 1.5" track off of a xlt rmk. A guy really thought you had something. I'll have to see if I can find my dads pictures of when they started putting plastic and aluminum paddles on their early and mid 80's indy's. Vintage racing pictures make me want to go out to the shop and put some more time into the 79 arctic cat cross country to get it ready for next years I 500 vintage race.
