Just looking at kicking a little dough into my sled for this season and for a low cost engine upgrade was thinking a set of reeds? I ride at 9-12000 ft.

Maybe reeds aren't worth it?? I'm doing the new 14 secondary clutching, and have a bikeman prolite can.. outside of that sled is stock.

Love to hear some ideas from guys. Shoot the **** some before winter comes:) my spending limit is about 1000.

I'd focus on lightweight before i would touch reeds. They are known to give very minimal gains on the laydown 800. You could get into an slp pipe setup and fuel controller for around a grand.

I would do a lightweight can, a lightweight hood, and some good clutching and gearing if I were in your Boas.

reed upgrades are a waste of money, especially for the ridiculous prices they want for them. your money would be better spent elsewhere...

Do you have a 2012 or 2013 ProClimb? If you are still running 40" a-arms, an upgrade to 38" is a good place to start.

If you want performance, a pipe/controller will require clutching updates so that will take you over your budget.
Jaws Single $700
PVC with timing $450
Clutching (MDS weights, helix & springs ~$400)
---------
$1550 (RacinStation is a good source with custom maps for performance mods)
=====

If you already have a can then:
$320 - SLP Powder pro Skis (GoBigParts)
$130 - Madfab Board Inserts (GoBigParts or PM Madsigntist)
$260 - MDS Weights and Spring (RacinStation)
$ 50 - 20t top gear or 19/50 gearing discounted offer from Cat
$140 - Mountain Fit 10-piece Vent Kit (Mountain Fit)
--------
$900

Just to turn the screw on the subject, if I were to put in a set of reeds, I would stick with the stock reed cages and just add a set of boysen petals.

Going to an aftermarket valve means you have to cut the stock inlet horn. Which also means if you want to go back stock you need to buy a new inlet horns around $100

The stock cages work really good anyways.

I've ran reeds on my older M8 and it seemed like they helped the responsiveness.... but hell it could have been a placebo effect. Thanks for the input. Btw my sled is the 2013 limited 162. Anybody know of any intake systems like the bdx? Seems like they're the only ones I can find.. I like the idea of dropping 12lbs with their intake kit

I'm pretty sure dynotech research dyno'd the boyseen cages on cat 800 and gained 3 or 4 hp peak to peak

I ran the d&d y pipe on my 11 and it worked well. Had to add a couple grams of weight. I plan on putting it and the reeds on my 14.

Dynotech showed 5 to 5.5 hp from the y pipe

Just put the Boyseen rage cage on a 2014 M8. You don't have to modify the stock boot. It replaces the whole assembly.

The Boyseens are kinda interesting. Instead of 5 petals, there is just one large petal.

Interested to see if they make a difference.
