very quick digatron question

I just bought a 52S of a snowest member, installed it and can't get it to power on.

Quick question...
When you start your sled, does the digatron automatically turn on?

Im am trying to find out if I had been suckerd.

Tripple checked my wiring on my 01 skidoo summit.
Wired straight of the yellow wire on the lighting coil.
Grounded directly to the block.
Checked AC voltage, and resistance to the BNC connection with a volt/ohm meter.

Digatron never powers up, only if I hit power it has time to read LC (low cell)

any help would be appreciated.

LC means low charge...

Your statement is that you have a 52 S. Is it a DT 52SL. If so that is a simple two window unit that registars only EGT reports. The gauge takes it's power from a 12 v power source AC and in that unit is designed to initialize at a spike over 7V. Tach models take the same power source but initialize on a minimum RPM.

Two things could be happening....occasionally the instrument will not initialize if you have run the super caps completely out of juice. It seems to default the instrument and they won't initialize and run so you must return it to Digatron in Spokane Wa for service. They offer a limited warranty on the instrument and a lifetime original purchaser warranty. You will have some service charge because you are not the original owner. It's minimal and they are excellent and fair if there is any charge at all. Go to www.digatronusa.com for info on service.

NOW PRIOR to that....V meter test your wiring with the sled on at the yellow connection...Fire it up and test prior to the small 1/2amp inline fuse..post that fuse and then at the box connection. This will tell you if you are getting power to the box. Once again you need a spiking voltage from the sled's power to fire it up. Normally we see 7 to 9 V and then a spiking voltage when the sled is rev'd up. That is how you know you're on the correct power source for a tach driven model..yours is not tach driven but the initialization sequence is similar.

Thanks Rob,

After reading every digatron post in snowest. It looks like you are the authority on these devices, and I can't wait to get to the point of performing the checklist on your website.

The model is
DT-52S RT2W v 1.32

I have checked for AC voltage at the connector. Maybe since I have been doing this in my garage, I have not spiked beyond 7V? Thats all I can think of for now. Maybe it is time to send it in?

There are updates to at least 1.34 version. DT 52S RE2W is what that should be if it's R that means S for snowmobile, R should = tach response the E2 is two egt's and the w is h20. At least that is how I decipher the secret code. So it sounds like you have a tach output? That is great because then it means you have a data logger. RE-PLAY INFO...coolest most beneficial tuning tool known to sleds.

Hit that yellow with the tester at idle and then rev it. At idle you should fire the unit unless it's so discharged that it' won't kick over. By reving the motor you would instantly see spikes on the voltage. Now on that wiring for the ski doo there are two ...one yellow black tracer and one all yellow. Can't remember which we hit but one will spike with RPM and one will not. A two second test and you know. Tap into the one that spikes with RPM. Anyway run those tests and if it fails then call Digatron and ask Ken in tech if there is anything else you should consider prior to sending in. I know it's bad news to use them prior to a good charge and running them down. Ask him about that as well.

YES 100% do my test sequence and learn what those report numbers mean against your RPM's. The thing is use less with out that knowledge. It's not nearly as complicated as it seems and once you know what the reports mean to your situation you know have all the info you need both for safety and maximum performance.

digatron continued

Hi Rob,

Wanted to make sure we are on the same page.

Digatron instructions state to connect the red lead to the lighting coil BEFORE the regulator. Checking my sled and Ski Doo Schematics, only 3 wires leave the lighting coil. Yellow, Yellow, and black, and those yellows are the ones that I connected too. It isn't till after the regulator till we see the yellow/black, that powers the majority of the other sleds options. grips, etc...
