very generic truck question, how much does a differential cost to fix?

im looking at buying a older toyota for wheelin and one im looking at wont go into four wheel drive. The front diff. is sorta splitting on one side, i know that sounds wierd but i cant think of how else to describe it. Anyone know how much this is gonna cost to fix roughly?

I know Catco does great work for that kind of thing and isn't that expensive, just got to check if you have a Catco in your area. They are basically a driveline place with some other odds and ends.

you can probably pick one up pretty cheap at a jumkyard.

You should be able to find a complete front axle, hub to hub, for 3 to 5 hundred. Then you can have some spare birfields to take withyou.
