AN AVALANCHE WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE MOUNTAINS OF NORTHERN AND CENTRAL UTAH, TO INCLUDE THE WESTERN UINTA MOUNTAINS. VERY DANGEROUS AVALANCHE CONDITIONS EXIST THROUGH THE WEEKEND...AVOID BEING ON OR BENEATH STEEP MOUNTAIN SLOPES...AS AVALANCHES MAY BE TRIGGERED LOW ON THE SLOPE AS WELL.

Heads up.... super sketchy, especially Uintas, Logan, Skyline.

This is the real deal. We're talking... tree snapping, bone crushing, we're not coming home to our families at the end of the day kind of avalanches.

Terrain to avoid- steep, upper elevation slopes facing the north half of the compass, especially those in the wind zone with an easterly component to their aspect, where a HIGH avalanche danger exists. Both human triggered and natural avalanches are likely.

Go to terrain- If you're looking for LOW avalanche danger, head to wind sheltered terrain, especially those where there are no steep slopes above or adjacent to where you're riding.

Go to utahavalanchecenter.org for more details

Heard there was an avalanche up Logan canyon today. Search and rescue was flying up the canyon when we were heading down. Supposedly the guy that got buried was uncovered but had a broken arm. I'm sure we'll all hear the full details later on

thought i heard something about avalanche in the bear lake area on the news tonight. i was in another room so i didn't get the details. maybe it was a good thing i went out west bunny shooting today instead of finally takin the sled out.

I was in a pretty good size avalanche Saturday. Carried me down the hill about 200' didnt come out of the snow until the very end. Very frightening, I can tell you they hit you like a freight train and take all the oxygen out of the air with them. We were being super cautios and staying off the slope because we knew the danger. It was a natural slide in the wrong place and the wrong time. Once it started there was no place to go or do before it hit us. We all survived no serious injuries.

Man glad you are ok.We passed you guys on the trail heading up to that hill, must of happened just after we passed you guys. scarry hill that thing slides all the time, we always stay away from it. Glad all is well.

Yeah I hate that hill, we have it named Kc's bowl because when I was 13-14 years old I was side hilling across it and it broke lose then. We never play on it, it's just our way to get down into current creek.

Ya I recognized your sled from your pic. I should of stopped and said hi.man the snow was awsome up there:)

Yeah should of stopped, I feel bad for the last guy in your group I let you all pass and then I thought you guys were gone and came up on him pretty quick and think I pissed him off. Tell him sorry for me.

Yeah I helped the girl in front of you get unstuck in that little clearing and then we headed over the ridge to drop back into current creek and it happened :15 mins at the most after you passed us.

Pretty scary. Yeah the snow was really good up to that point, where did you guys unload at?

It hit the side of my sled so hard that it pushed my track shaft out of the bearing and moved my cmx belt drive system over about a inch so my break wouldn't stay on and it rubbed a huge grove in the bottom pulley. We spent a hour at the road tearing my sled apart just to pull it back

Unloaded in the co-op Creek parking lot bummer about your sled hope you get back together at least your still breathing. will have to hook up sometime.

i'm glad you're all ok. thanks for posting. i noticed you mentioned it was a natural but with the current setup out there you may very well have triggered the slide from where you were. we have a very uniform layer of facets out there that has been covered with slabs over the last couple weeks. faceted snowpacks are notorious for being triggered at the bottom of slopes, even the flats, where the slab is thinner. just a thought.
