Ok me and Hilly got done with our vertical steering kit installation. It took about 8 cocktails (+- 3 hours)
A couple of observations:
When you are installing the new post, lift up the new post from its resting place and work a 15mm socket with about a 2' extension with the nut for the steering. Tape the nut onto the socket and feed it down under the steering post that you lifted up to get clearance fo rthe socket and extension. Much easier from the top than from under neath.
That little tip we were into cocktail #7 and were not thinking as clearly as we might have been. Frankly by this point Hilly was no help, but heck, I am too old to pick new freinds (I dont even buy green banannas anymore)
The bolts that hold the tripod to the sled can be a bit tricky. Both Hilly and me had difficulty here. Once you take out the exitsing bolts the nut that is in each of the tubes, seems to get too far from the bolt to catch the threads easily. We had to just barely get the nut started and then pry the whole bolt/nut combo upwards a bit so the bolt could get on the nut before it would strip the threads.
Putting the hood back on,,,,,,,,, we learned something interesting.........
Put the air filter and plastic keeper on before you install the hood. WAAAAAY easier than installing those items after you put the hood on.... It only took us about 6 times putting the hood on before we figured that one out....
All in all, this was a pretty easy project.
Ohhhhhh, one other thing...... Your vert steering kit DOES NOT HAVE THE TEMPLATE FOR CUTTNG THE HOLE FOR THE REAR POST!
Your dealer can print off that template. Wayyyyyy easier than measuring and havinng to fack around with that....
Also, when Hilly was looking at his sled. there were hoses routed incorrectly and hooked up completely wrong off the intercooler, the other comes off the BOV? (That plastic thing that has the arrow on it)
Ok, the small hose coming off the intercooler needs to go to the bottom of the gray plug. The second nipple from the bottom.........
The other hose off the black plastic thingy goes to the top of the gray plastic plug......
His were completely backwards..........
Those hoses have stupid fasteners on them. They come off very easily.. We went and bought 4 small gear clamps. They will not come off now, believe me.........
EDIT:
Another thing I just remembered. The existing steering post bushing assembly on Hillys sled was missing one of the nuts completely. The other bolt/nut was very loose. This is an area that I would pull off the nut and blue loctite them. At the very least check the tightness of those bolts. Mine were loose...........
