Welp folks, I guess the cat is finally out of the bag on this, even though everyone knew it was coming for years.
The Vernal BLM office has now staked off areas around the Jensen Hills, Honda (Buckskin) Hills, and the Measer Dunes (Red Mountain) that is now essentially closed to OHV travel pending "review" of designated routes.
As of now, the majority of the Honda (Buckskin) Hills is still designated as an "open" OHV area, which means inside that boundary you can ride wherever you want. Up hills, make new trails, whatever. Outside that boundary, it is now against regulations to go off existing routes.
The problem with this is, they have not "designated" routes yet, so this could go either way.
I ran into the BLM trailer this evening out riding and talked to the guy about it for awhile, and basically they said they're still trying to keep the bulk of it open but they're trying to cut down on people cutting new trails and new hills to climb.
I have not yet been out to Maeser (Red Mountain) yet this summer to see what they've changed out there, but ...
We all know "This is where it starts".
We all know where it's going to wind up too
Fighting the "Vernal Culture" is a losing battle, and ultimatley the entire damned thing is gonna be shut down
So I guess I better ride my bike like I stole it while I still can
