Venting on a budget?

Got my 12 just about ready to head west but after a weekend of riding in 3' pow in the U.P. my belt is still hotter than I want. I have the blankets on the turbo and manifold and an intercooler fan with the evo 215 flash and moflo knee vents.

What is the next best area to vent, side panels or hood above the blower/exhaust? Would like to do both but on a budget as we leave on the 20th for the Uintas.

I would say the clutch side panel , already rather large holes for the intercooler in the Hood so I'd say your clutch bay, seal up the duct that lets snow into your clutch bay as well with some frogskin material and the vent that's in front of it as well.

I've had those areas frogskined since day one and have added the deep snow kit for the sidepanel too. I just recently had primary shimmed and this was the first test for that. It worked great but my cool clutches are now right back to hot with the secondary floated as well. I know the secondary is junk but its gonna have to do for this year as I've already had it balanced and cut to 13 offset and new bushings installed.

Evo said to remove something besides the goggle melter bag up top but not sure what he was referring too.

He was probably referring to the metal plate that sits right below the goggle bag that is held on with two screws. That would be my guess as with that removed would let the heat out better.

I get a huge amount of heat out of my headlight delete plate vent. It warms up the helmet nice when stopped for a break:) Acts like a chimney. So I can see why he wants that google bag and metal plate off.

On our race sleds They used to have a bunch of small holes drilled in the counsel where your knees go. 1/2" maybe. On our Doo mod sleds we would use 1-1/2 hole saw and put 10-12 holes in the back of each side panel behind the clutch and behind the exaust can. IT would let out a ton of heat. Took the sleds out west a few times and no real issues with snow getting in holes either. even when boondocking. The counsel is only $53 so it would be worth a shot. to try it.

Already have the moflow knee vents back there on the batwing. Just ordered some slp flowrites to put in front of primary. Cheaper alternative to everything else.

flow rites

get the frogskinz instead for in front of your primary, the round ones. did mine the first time with flow rites and had to modify and cut a bunch out in behind the panel.

For the lower Panel clutch and Pipe front Get the ones from 2 Cool-
Tammy and Allen have better material that can take a beating than the frog skinz.

The Cat complete vented side panel make venting a breeze and you don't have to hack up your stock panels. Let's out a ton of Heat.

Also we drill the clutch guard behind the secondary... let's the heat go thru instead of around the blockage.... Pipe side... not to many options the oil tank is a hinderance for air flow.
Here is clutch side of the Cat vented panel that you can order from any dealer.. on my 2013 T1100 LTD 162

Can the duct that goes to the manifold be removed if you're blanketed? Just frogskinz the opening or some other product.

Yes it can- on the pic above I am fully blanketed and cut the horn off but still kept enough of a surface area so the front vent could still be used and allow additional draw.

Some just remove it and silcone the front vent.. but doesn't last-especially when your cleaning snow away .
The trimming still allows stock retention.

I made clutch side panel vents with silk screen, silicone, and rivets. Pretty quick cheap and dirty. I put aluminum screen material over silk screen. thin plastic or I used thin gauge alluminum 1" border around vents for robots to secure to. All but silk screen can be found at lowes or Home Depot. 1400 mountain miles and all vents are still in tact and serving their purpose. Probly saved $150. Pm me if you want pics
