venting kits

holtz vent kit

I installed the vent kit on my pro last week and rode it last weekend.
It definately leaked snow into my clutch area and made my belt slip.

I like the kit because it is metal so it will not be easily broken by a branch or something.

I am going to install some screen material behind my Holtz clutch screen to try to stop the powder injestion.

I ride in wyoming so the snow is very light and that might be a factor.

Installed the Fire-n-Ice vents on mine. They to have the aluminum support in them. I to think I will install the Pre-Filter material on mine.

i have the holz still sitting on the bench, when i put them on i'm gonna put screen behind them, all of them. if not i'd just get out the old black and decker and start turning the thing into swiss cheese... venting without screens is just silly!!!

Great, I just finished putting mine in yesterday. So now I get to look forward to clutch slippage?? Not cool.

I had the same problem with slippage. SLP sells the prefilter material. I ordered a sheet of it and then added to all the vents on the clutch side. It made a huge difference. I highly recommend it if you are going to use the HRP vents.

I ordered HRP vents a mounth ago and just got them today. Glad to see they sent some screen with the front panel kit just wish they would of glued it on. Hopefully this will help.

So I installed the shock tower vent on my dragon to allow cool air to my turbo. I decided to not put the one on the clutch side because I was sceptical on them not leaking snow. Well let's just say they have a slight leak. The right side of my sled was completely packed with snow. Finally engine heat melted the snow and created an ice layer that blocked more snow from coming in. I am talking a good 2 cubic feet of snow on the right side of my sled. Wish I had a camera to send to holz and show them. You will defiantly need screen material. If you go riding before then just tape of the vent or else you WILL have snow coming in.

I found this out the hard way yesterday. My belt slipped so bad my day was over. No duct tape, no nothing! My buddy finally had a great idea and donated his face guard, which I was able to slip between the panel and the vent that saved the rest of the day. Wow what a bad design. Seems they hadn't actually tested it. The ski spit powder right up into both vents, and turning left was just out of the question. Not happy with myself, #1 getting burned for $80+ and #2, cutting up my side panel to install them. Now I have to remove them and attach some of their expensive pre-filter material myself  Maybe Holz will be contacting me to let me know they will be sending out a replacement product. :face-icon-small-con

I would send them back if I were you.

This is right from HOlZ web site

Common questions about our vent kits:
Q: Do these vents allow snow to enter and make my clutch and belt wet?
A: No, we have never had any problems with snow intrusion with any of our vent kits.
Q: Should I install pre-filter material behind my vent for extra protection?
A: We do not see the need for the extra material. But you can install the material at your own discretion.

Where did they test them is the question I have.........in their front yard?

I'm a fan of Holz products, don't get me wrong, but these are bad. What's funny is I had the same type of vent on my 08 D8 in the shock tower directly in front of the primary and never had a problem with it in any snow conditions.

I am reading this 2 hrs late. I just cut my side panel or I would send them back. I ordered the side panel and front panel kit. They only sent screen in one so it isnt enough to do everything. WTF I think the screen will plug anyway because the snow can't get out of the holes in the vent with screen behind them. Ovviously they have not be tested on this sled in deep pow anyway. I woud'nt buy HOLZ vents. Sounds like false advertizing to me.

I'm speculating here, but I think it was just bad luck and the preseason rush on their part. We were all demanding product and they didn't seem to have trouble with previous models with the same design so walla, here we are. I'm going to look around for another brand that is the same size with prefilter material.

Bill,

Remove the side vent and glue some screen door material to the inside if the vent and you'll be ok. If you contact Holz they will send you the required fabric and rivets. Its only the lower clutch vent. You can also just remove your side panel and take it to Carls and they will fix it.

What is the best glue to use?

What's the best glue to attach the pre-filter material?

Some use a glue gun and swear by it, I like to use Gasket Sealant, by Mr. Gasket, it is also known as Red Tack or High Tack, I is usualy used to hold a gasket on a part while it is being set in place.

I spray it on the part, let it set up, then apply the SLP material.

I use the prefilter on ALL of my vents, snow comes in from all sides and turns to steam, and affects the whole engine compartment. Filtering just the clutch vent, will help with only the snow that hits that vent, right?

Do you install it on the front or back? Do you wrap it or trim the edge flush? Any pics would be great. Thanks in advance!

Very nice! Thanks for the info.
