vented side pannels and foam removed from hood ruined my warrenty??

Spoke to the dealer the other day about doing the warrenty work to my assault(pto side piston scored severely) and said they will not do any work under warrenty till i have foam under the hood and stock side pannels that are not vented, This kinda is a huge inconvinece as i dont have or know any one who does have stock side pannels or a hood, has anyone else been denied warrenty becasue of this? i also heard that the rebuild kits are on backorder as well??? i hope not or my season will be over for sure:face-icon-small-dis

that is complete bull****......i would raise hell!!! tell them you will take it elsewhere..they may rethink doing business with you. that is comeplete horse ****

Hate to tell you guys but the dealer has a point. They require alot of pics when you send in request for warranty. If Polaris didnt offer it in the PG&A book (SLP can, Side vents) they will more than likely reject the claim. They ask for pic of the engine bay, under hood shot, pic of the exhaust system, air box pic...This is no different from any other company out there. Warranty is getting tougher to prove is was a MFG issue. So telling him that they need it back "stock" will only help him getting warranty.

For starters it probably isn't worth your effort to get Polaris to rebuild it anyway unless you plan to sell it. I'm sure the Polaris lawyers and investors have had a hayday with all the warranties on these sleds so they continue to find any reason to deny a warranty claim. I'm not positive, but I think they would have to actually prove that your side panel vents caused the failure in order to actually deny the warranty.

I would probably try a different dealer. Or, get a little more aggressive with your current one. Be straight forward with them. Tell them that you both know that these sleds are a problem and that they know dang well that the side panels didn't cause the failure. And furthermore you would like to know why Polaris won't stand behind their product. Let them know that your relationship as a future customer is on the line.

Gees, Polaris should just have a dragon 800 hotline that you call when your sled burns down and they just automatically send you a new motor. Lol  Seriously though, this is just going to end badly. Someone is going to find a legitimate way to get Polaris to do the right thing here. It is probably going to involve lawyers. I just can't believe that they haven't done more through all of this. Just recall the dang things or offer a buy back program or a big dollar incentive to get a new sled. The money they have spent screwing around and alienating the consumer has to be unreal. Yet the money it would cost to do the right thing would really seem small in comparison.

Just think of the millions they have spent in additional testing of 7 or 8 reflashes. The additional developement of twin ring pistons, different cylinders, different head, different silencer. The money they have had to pay in constant warranty coverage. Not just parts, but also all the money spent on labor. Poor executive decision making. :tsk::nono:

removed foam and side panel vents play no roll in warranty, and should NOT BE any reason for a denied warranty claim. 90% of my customers have side panels vents and have removed all the foam since all it does is hold heat and water adding un-needed weight. you need to find a new dealer. Polaris is not any where near that up tight. yes they want pictures of pretty much every burn down or any warranty for that matter on 09-10 dragons. but they will not deny your engine warranty because you allowed for a cooler engine compartment, that is a joke. (this post is from personal experience not hear-say, we have filed way to many warranty claims on these sleds with pictures and no denials because of vents or removed foam)

Thanks for the reply's guys, the dealer said they know that the foam and vented side panels have nothing to do with these motors going down but said polaris is looking for any reason not to cover these motors, that being said they would hate to have mine denied because of it. It makes sense but what a pain in the a$$ trying to find a different hood and side panels that still have foam in them:frusty:.The dealer is being very helpful and its not there fault as they have no choice but to follow the rules i guess. I just find it frustrating that after a motor that has such a high failure rate and they still try to put the blame it on the consumer for mods that actually save the motor(PC5, venting etc)

mine complained about mine missing the under hood foam, I told them flat out it had started melting over the exhaust and I removed it and put heat tape in its place..polaris warrantied it but they argued the point..when I told the dealer to tell polaris fix it or get sued..they fixed it...never been an issue since....tell the dealer to take pics of another sled in for work...

They wont take pics of a different sled as they are already being investigated by polaris for doing that last season, you should see how mad the service guys are about that, so now i totally understand why they want mine stock, i dont wanna make waves as they have helped me out many times, i gonna do what they asked me to do and bring it in stock, i found a hood off a rmk so i gonna put that on, wish me luck:face-icon-small-dis

Wow, thanks for posting that info. It won't be long and the dealers aren't going to want to even carry Polaris. This is honestly some of the worst customer treatment that I have heard of. Rather than putting up such a fight about a known bad product they should almost be developing a no questions asked policy. lol

Polaris fully understood the repercussions of sending out a product that was not up to spec. And they made the decission to do it anyway. And now they don't want to take the responsibility that goes along with their actions and decisions. Pretty childish Mr. CEO. I think you could maybe donate some of your excess millions to help out the customers you so willingly decieved.

It certainly isn't the dealers fault. It sounds like they are doing what is right and putting themselves on the line to take care of the customer even when Polaris won't. That's a pretty messed up scenario. I hope the outcome is the right one for you.

Unreal, Have any off you ever seen the Discount Tire commercial on TV where the old lady is unhappy with her tire and returns it by throwing it thru there glass door or window! Well this would be a good statement to Polaris at the corporate office here in MN.

I hate to instigate legal action against Polaris but it obviously needs to be done when you consider all of the problems with the 800 CFI's and the lack of customer service support and warranty issues!

Im hoping I dont ever end up in this crappy position. Removed foam, cleaned up and heat taped under the hood first thing!

I would think they won't warranty your engine because you had a pipe on it.

I dropped it off today, borrowed a hood and side panels off a friend who has a rmk, put the stock pipe etc on,the guys in the service dept said it should be good to go, should find out later this week. I hope all goes well:face-icon-small-hap

Make sure they don't throw out the pistons. I just pulled my pistons\jug because I saw some scaring through the exhaust valve and have the same issue. 200 miles on the 2010 updated pistons and mono jug. Hand measured them and got .010 and .011. Took them over to a local machine shop who does a lot of snowmobile crank work and by he got .011 on the first and is going to micrometer them and the jugs tomorrow.

If you still have the pistons have them measured. Foam and side panels don't have a damn thing to do with grossly out spec parts. The scoring is from piston slap from the pistons being too small. You're lucky you caught it before the skirt broke and took out your entire engine. On the other hand, if you're not ready to take this thing to the mattresses with Polaris, get the side panels and have them do the warranty work.

sad part is cylinders are back ordered and have been for a long time. they don't even know when they will be available. after about a month polaris sent up out 2 reman cylinders to use.
