Valuable Iphone App: Emergency distress beacon

I stumbled on an application for the Iphone that could be very useful in an emergency situation.

It is called "Emergency distress beacon" and it is free.

It can email your longitude and latitude in just a few seconds......

I know, I know, what about if you cannot get a cell signal. That does not prevent you from getting your lon/lat from the built in GPS receiver.

Maybe someone else in your party has a cell phone that actually does get service and you can call 911 and give the exact coordinates.

Either way it seems to be a pretty neat application,,,,, and what the heck,,,,,,,, it dont cost ya nuthin...

Might come in handy if you have an emergency situation in the back country.

Sounds like a good deal. Might look into it when AT&T loses it's grip on the Iphone in 2010. Verizon plans on adding it into the lineup from what I have heard.

As of right now AT&T does not work well in the areas of NW Colorado, whereas Verizon works quite well.

Not to hijack the thread, but does AT&T work well anywhere? I drop calls constantly, whether I am in UT, Colorado, or California. I hate AT&T!

As I stated in my post, it is a tool for quickly telling someone where you are. Yep the AT&T connection might not work where you are, but if you happen to have your cell phone along on the ride and someone needs medical attention, you can have someone who HAS a cell signal call 911 and actually have dead nuts on Lat/LON coordinates for searchers.......Using the Iphone simply as a GPS

if at&t and altell would just settle there dispute at&t would have good service everywhere again. But until they settle there issues and altell lets at&t customers back on there towers, then we are out of luck. As for teh iphone going to verizon, it has been heresay since day one. In talking with a district rep from at&t a month ago or so the iphone exclusive contract goes for another 3 years...

Oh, kinda like a free "Cell-SPOT"

The iphone is such a piece of crap anyways, I doubt the app even works and I wouldn't trust it anyways, the GPS maps aren't even right! And it won't do you much good when your calls get droped every 5 seconds.....i'm about to introduce this stupid phone to a hammer....what a waste of money  And I know it's not just mine, my bro's is the exact same way, and a mere 6 months and I have dead pixels on the screen....

I have found the gps dead nuts on. I have enjoyed this phone since I got it over a year ago.

It works great minus rural reception

My I phone is flawless. GPS is exactly on. No dropped calls. Best phone/computer I have ever had.
