Vail / Sage Adventures

The wife is planning a ski trip to Vail in December. I'd like to get in a day or two of mountain riding. Sage Adventures has an "Advanced" tour, but the videos look like they are just meadow riding (it doesn't look like they have avy packs on). I pretty comfortable riding steeps, but am far from a technical tree rider. Does anyone have experience/knowledge of this outfit and the tour? Other suggestions? I can bring all my gear. Just need a sled and guide. Thanks.

Do your homework on sled rentals and go for a full day at Vail Pass, then ask for people on here to ride with and show you around.

Know good sleds can be rented in Vail, but you may have to pull a trailer with them.

Redcliff you could rent a good 600 and that would be fine, but most folks will stage off the I-70 side. So if you were to ride with somebody from here you'd have to meet them out on the pass somewhere.

Dillon and Frisco should be included in your sled search, as they're probably riding VP.

Most of all, Pray for snow!

I'm very familiar with that area. Sage does mostly ride in open meadows. This is because they could never get a permit from the USFS. This is a common problem for many rental companies. Sage might rent a few mountain sleds, but they mostly turn you lose to be on your own or ride on some very mellow private property if you are guided. They can't guide you on FS land. Nova Guides rents 600cc mtn sleds too and they are permitted. It might be a better option. There is also Vail Valley Tours right in Vail. I don't think they have mountain sleds though. They just cater to the people that have never been on sleds. I don't want to bash any company but I also don't want you to be let down. Call the companies and confirm for yourself. Ask what areas you will ride and come back here to discuss.

Thanks. Very informative reply.

Like the others have mentioned, nova guides does unguided rental 600s.
I seem to recall there being someone in the vail valley that had 800 s for rent unguided with either a trailer or he would drop them at VP for a fee. You might want to search old posts on here. Stay away from the rental yamahas out of Frisco. They are too gutless.

If you want to rent your own sleds in Eagle County contact one of the following:

mailto:Kieperguides@yahoo.com

He has 600/800 eTecs available

Boyz Toyz

He rents a variety of sleds including M8000's.

I think they both rent trailers if you will have a truck/SUV in town with you.

If you go with either, tell them that the Holy Cross Powder Hounds club referred you!
