Been looking at jobs in riding areas or close to, since my snowmobile addiction has gotten out of control and looking at just moving into mountain areas I've got nothing really holding me here in MN but a decent job and a dog.

Anyways was looking at vail there's a few jobs for me there and I'll probably fly out and interview for them but...where should I look to live around there? I've got a dog and a sled..lol anyone have a room?

The dog is going to be the tough part. Because many landlords have been burned by pet owners, they charge more or don't allow them.

Local Paper: Vail Daily
Vail Resorts Jobs: http://jobs.vailresorts.com/

It's cheaper to live "Down valley", Eagle and Gypsum. Minturn and Red Cliff are both fun places to live. Riding is very close and sometimes right out your door at both of those places. They are both colder than down valley. Vail is fun if you are into the skiing and bar scene. You will pay far more to live in Vail. Living in Red Cliff is going to give you the best riding, but you will have at least a 30 minute+ commute for most jobs. Avon and Edwards is between Eagle and Vail. Good compromise for location and cost of living. There are a few places in Avon (wild ridge) where you can ride from your garage, but not many.

What kind of work are you looking for?

I think I might have the work part figured out looking/interviewing in Vail. I do HVAC/R.

Wow it's expensive to live anywhere near there! Found a few spots that I can get in with the dog but then the sleds the problem! I guess my toolbox will be going in storage :( or living room lol

How is the drive from Red Cliff or Leadville during winter/snowing? (24/91) Do they shut down at times how long does it take to get to Vail from those two towns?

I've got a 4wd truck

Red Cliff will take you about 25-40 minutes depending on the time of day of your commute. There is only one road in and out of Red Cliff (in the winter). It does get shut down, but it is a state highway (Hwy 24/6) so it is maintained well, and the closures are generally pretty short.

Leadville is about 21 miles south of Red Cliff, drive is another 30 minutes from there. You can also go over Fremont pass to Copper and then take I-70 to Vail from there. Probably faster over Fremont. Housing will be cheaper in Leadville, but the drive is certainly longer. Personally I'd pay more money to live close, drive less, pay less in fuel and wear and tear.

Leadville is a cool place, but it gets cold there and they have LONG winters. You are from Minnesota so it might not be too bad, "cold" wise.

vail housing

just do it ,the valley will be the best all around. after a couple of years you adjust and it no longer seems high. moved out from the south real cheap to live but never looked back . mike

Leaving vail now...couldn't agree on a high enough pay for the cost of living out here with the job. Be a sick place to live but I'm not taking a pay cut and pay more to live. I'd rather just do 5 trips to the mts and still be around long time friends.

I'll try again next year with some more planning this woulda been rushed to say the least anyways.

If it were easy everyone would live up their ) =

I'd live in Vail if I could find a good paying job

Wasn't set on vail... that was just the best option at the time with riding being at or almost at my back door

I'll keep looking but probly just make it happen next year with some more planning...unless something pops up of course
