Vacuum hubs on 07 ford f150

Hey I just have a quick question about the 4x4 system on my dads 07 ford f150 FX4. Recently I pulled into our driveway with it and because of company I was forced to back up in-between two trees on the property to park. It’s not exactly a tricky maneuver but when I put the truck in 4x4 and stated to back up the truck started moving back as it should and rather than the 4x4ing right up the rear tires broke loose and there was a rather awful ratcheting sound coming from the front end. Long story short it was just that the vacuum hubs had not fully engaged due to a cracked vacuum line. The line was replaced and the 4x4 worked flawlessly. The question I have is did this damage the 4x4 components at all? I’m taking about this crazy loud grinding ratcheting sound that I heard? Hopefully not but I’d like to hear what you guys think and also if anyone else has had this problem on trucks with these Vacuum engaging hubs. The funny thing it is that the truck only had 40K on it. IT is used quite extensivly towing the boat and hauling the sleds on the deck but the truck is fitted with firestone 5000 pound air bags and the FX4 moble is supposed to be real tuff!!??

My brother has an 04 and his made the same noise when he engaged in reverse. I dont think you are suposed to put it in four wheel drive while in reverse i guess. As far as damage I dont really know.

yes well that is the truth I think but f*** it's not like i just through it in and gaver fuel haha sat for like 10 seconds roled forward a bit and than when backwards I dunno thanks for the quick reply!

Check your owners manual. I know it has specific directions for changing from 2wd to 4h and 4l. That would be the best place to start.

yes originaly I thought I had done somthing wrong but the guy at ford just said it happends to alot of them but he said it's not usualy on one so new (usualy liike 04-05 trucks) but ya, I guess it just happends. The brakes warped to haha all covered by ford seeing as he truck is only 2 years old. Lucky I guess...
