V10 fuel mileage

2004 F350 V10 - 10mpg

I drive a 2004 F350 supercab, long bed with the V10. I get 10mpg with a nine-foot camper on the road and 9-10 when I add a 3-place snowmobile trailer. The best I've gotten is 13mpg empty on the road. I love my F350 and it has plenty of power. Don't know how it would pull a 4-place enclosed snowmobile trailer with the camper on it, or what the mpg might be.

If I owned an oil company, I would have a V-10 to go with it. How do you afford to fill them things up every couple days?? I'll drive my diesel to work and back for a month without filling it. $65.00 a tank once a month is plenty for me. Could not imagine filling a V-10 up! You V-10 owners must have bottomless money pockets.

2010 crewcab shortbed, f-350, v-10, 4.30 gears, 35.5 inch tall tires....14.2 miles per gallon, hand calculated, 240 mile trip....half at 65 mph and half at 50-55 mph.........different trip, loaded with hunting gear, two people, and pulling a two place open sled trailer with one atv on it.....9.5 mpg at 65 to 70 mph.....this is all in utah with altitudes of 5 to 9 k, frequent hills....but anything over 15 mpg?, no i don't think so....and mostly in the 10-12 mpg area and i'm not a lead foot either....:D......on the other hand, the v-10 seems to be a very reliable engine/transmission....oil changes and regular maintenance is much less than a diesel (and i've owned them all, as i get a new one each year)....not quite the laid-back towing power of the diesel, but still very acceptable....and i don't have to deal with the new emmission problems of the newer diesels, which hate idle time (tends to plug the emmisson stuff).....and my truck does see some idle time in cold weather.....

Well said,

2005+ trucks got a substantial power increase with the 3-valve head and the Torqshift Transmission. I have a 2008 F250 Crew Cab (V10) with true duals and custom programming. Right around 390 HP and the truck tows nearly as good as my 06' Duramax did. The motor likes to rev but builds big power at the higher RPMs. Mileage is 11-12 all around and 14 Highway. Towing in mountainous terrain the mileage drops to 8 mpg with a 27' Enclosed.

I've been a diesel fan for years but with the new emissions standards killing their mileage and the $5-6K premium paid up front it just didn't make sense for my uses anymore.

i had a 2000 with 430 gears got about 13.5 empty 9 pulling 24 ft trailer inow have 2006 with 4 10 gears about 12 emtry about 8 pulling trailer older v 10 seem to do aliite better great running engine ben in 30 below weather at races turns over three times engines running.

23 NEVER!!!

I have an '02 with 180000 kms. 3.73's, 285 MT's, standard tranny, supercab short box. It is always between 10 and 13 US/mpg on the readout. Up to 13 on a road trip and around the 10 to 11 mark if I'm in town. 2000 lb camper and 3 quads it's around 8. There is a huge difference in mpg from 100 kmh to 125 kmh but like someone said earlier over 15, I doubt it.

I just put the full Banks kit on as the flowmaster cat back was falling off. It seems to be about 1.5 mpg better but I have only ran about 1500km so far. Power in the low rpms is slightly better but really picks up at 3000+. The sound is great as well which I did not think was even possible.

I also picked up a custom tune from 5 star tuning in the states. Haven't uploaded the tune yet though.

All in all I have been thrilled with the V10. Maintenance is has been cheap! In the 7.5 years I have owned it I burnt out one fuel pump (ran it out of gas), had to replace the 4wd switch and I just did the clutch for the first time. Zero engine problems.

If you are looking for big, big power the v10 is not for you go with a diesel and mod it up, but the v10 has had all of the power I have ever needed and like I said earlier it is cheap maintain.

Oh he might be seeing 23 alright......23 L/100km.

Pretty sure he nailed it Liters/100 kilometers is the common measurement up here and the original poster is in AB... 23L/100km works out to 10.7 mpg (us gallon is 3.8 liters)

My 1976 Powerwagon with a 440 and 727 3speed gets the same:p

My 99 gets 14-15 empty, 8-10 with anywhere from 6k to 12k behind it. It has cai, cat delete, catback, and a diablosport, 3.73 gears and 285 tires. Also run one heat range cooler spark plugs as all gas trucks pulling should. But I would love to have more power, without owning a diesel.

Like jthussey said earlier: "A V10 will never see 20 mpg. not even with a sail on the damn thing. His nose didn't get bigger when he told you that, did it?"

That's some funny!...I had a 1999 F350 with the V10, great truck. 11 - 12 MPG most of the time, in the winter around town 9 MPG running 295/16" BFGs.

The wife and I put on 9200 miles in one month chasing the snow all over the western USA and up in BC. We were just snowboarding back then, no trailer. 11 MPG on all the trips. It is what it is. Gas and go, change oil once in a while, doesn't matter how cold it is, -30 or sitting for 4 days, it will start.

just curious... are everyones milages hand calced or from the build in gauge.. because from what I ahve seen, the meters can be pretty far off... easily 2-3 off sometimes. sounds like they just like fuel!! such is the nature of big block gassers thought... the sad part is the carbed 383 in my 78 chevy gets those kinds of numbers!! with much larger tires.

2 excursions: 03 and 05. both with V10. both same mileage as discussed above. adequate towing power at low speeds but in the mountains or keeping it > 65mph would rather be towing with a diesel. cost difference for the diesel, however, keeps me in the gas V10. Ford no longer going to make it sounds like. before i bought the V10's i heard rumors they were not good engies. my experience has been they are very good/reliable.
