Whats the deal with VF III reeds and the crap boots on them. Last fall I bought a set of VFIII reeds and when I pulled them out of the box, one of the boots had a crack in them.

Sent them back to the mfg for warranty and they sent me out a new set. A year later and some 300 miles, I check them and both of the boots are showing signs of cracking.

They should still be under warranty, so no way in hell am I going to run them like this. I already know they will tell me they can exchange them, but no refund.

Anyone else been running into problems like this?? Am i better off selling the replacements and trying something else?

I had mine replaced last year,,they made to the end of the season and were starting to crack,,,so i sent them back again...they said the have a new rubber compound this year.
The new ones do look a lot better than the ones i got last year...so i guess i'll see how long these last..

I called yesterday and they told me the same thing. Send them back and they will send me a new style of boots.

I blew a motor last year because of there boots, they told me they new about there rev boots going bad , but didnot tell any dealers, so they were nice enough to give me free shipping on the new parts and charged me 80.00 until I sent there old boots back !!! I'm done with them!

RE: S h i t V-force

Yes I had the same problem with a '01 summit. Boots only lasted 2 months and had more cracks on the surface than granny. Tried to get replaecment boots. Called Moto Tassinari direct and was told I'd have to buy the entire reed assembly all over again cause they don't sell the boot seperately. Nice product .... NOT!!!

I have heard of this problem also. That is why I decided to see if I could sell the Boyesen Reed Cages. They are made out of aluminum and should never crack. My stock reeds are delaminating and I have bought a set of the Boyesen reeds to try out...I will be putting them on tomorrow and can give you guys an update as to what I think.

I need to be buying a set of SOMETHING this yr!

When you say "alum boots" this means that the carbs would in fact be hard mounted to the motor?

That rubber boot has GOT to save a lot of wear/tear (vibration) on the carb eh?

Got a pic of this alum deallie? (spose I could always Google Boyesen)

The boyesens use a small rubber section to connect the aluminum to the carbs. It is very small, and if they do break they are only a couple of dollars to replace.
