I know this could be a Land Use or Fouled Plug Political issue, but I put it here so that the maximum # of Utah Riders would see it.
I monitor opposition sites and am signed up for alerts and received this yesterday

contact your lawmakers and stop these people. I am a hunter also and we in Washington are also squarely in thier sights for wolf relocation which many believe it is already happening

Help Stop Utah’s
Anti-Wolf Bill

Donate now to help stop the Utah anti-wolf bill

Donate now to help stop anti-wolf extremists in Utah from shooting wolves on sight.
Dear George,

Hysterical anti-wolf hatred has hit a new high in Utah.

Spurred on by the so-called “Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife,” anti-wolf legislators are expected to pass a bill as early as this week that would allow state officials to remove any wolves that migrate back to their historic range in Utah.

Defenders of Wildlife’s resources are stretched thin with the increasing human threats to these long persecuted animals, but we’re fighting hard to block this outrageous anti-wolf bill.

We need your emergency donation of $15.00, $30.00, or whatever you can afford today to stop the Utah anti-wolf bill from becoming law.

Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife is the very same group whose Idaho chapter has been holding wolf-killing derbies to raise funds for anti-wolf litigation.

We can’t let these extremists win. Please help us stop this bill, save the lives of our wolves and other imperiled animals in the wild.

Working with our allies on the ground, Defenders of Wildlife is fighting hard to block this anti-wolf bill in Utah and to restore federal protections for these magnificent animals.

Wolves once roamed freely in Utah, playing an important part in balanced ecosystems in the state. But aggressive hunting, trapping and poisoning exterminated these important animals from the state during the last century.

Now there is hope as more wolves migrate from the Greater Yellowstone region into states like Utah. We won’t allow these wolves to be met by a hail of bullets.

Can you help us fight for the lives of these wolves? Please donate now.

Defenders supporters in Utah have already sent nearly 1,000 messages to state legislators, and we’re gearing up for an intensive effort to stop this bill over the next week.

Your caring contribution today will help us fight Utah’s anti-wolf extremists and win our court fight to restore life-saving federal protections for wolves in the northern Rockies -- including and especially in states like Utah, where anti-wolf hatred is running at a fever pitch.

We can’t win for wolves without your help. Please help support these vital efforts with your caring donation today.

For the Wild Ones,

P.S. We can’t allow the anti-wolf group like Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife to dictate the future of wolves in Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Utah. Please make an emergency donation on our secure website today or call 1-800-385-9712 to donate by phone.

Since Friday morning, more than 50,000 dedicated Defenders activists have called on outdoor retailers Cabela’s and Sportsman’s Warehouse to stop supporting “predator derbies"

That's one side of the story...........lets hear the other.:ear:

I am a hunter though so I am bias.........I have no problem what so ever with Wolves not being here. It is already hard enough for me to be able to hunt trophy class animals in this state. I don't need wolves going against my odds too.

I really don't think you need to worry about this bill being passed at this time though.......even if it did it would likely be quickly overturned due to the fact that it is in direct contradiction with Federal Law.

This bill has a high probability of being held to be unconstitutional under the Supremacy
Clause to the United States Constitution because federal law and regulations prohibit conduct
allowed by this bill. See 16 U.S.C. § 1531 et seq. (Endangered Species Act); 50 C.F.R.,
Chapter I, Subchapter B, Part 17, Endangered and Threatened Wildlife and Plants. Among
other things, the federal Endangered Species Act and federal regulations prohibit the killing or
unauthorized capture of an animal listed as endangered by the federal Fish and Wildlife
Service. This bill provides for the killing or capture and transfer of a wolf found anywhere in
Utah. While the wolf is not listed as an endangered species for the northeastern portion of the
state, it remains listed as an endangered species for the majority of the state. It is highly likely
that a court, faced with determining the constitutionality of this bill, would find that it violates
the Supremacy Clause by authorizing acts prohibited by federal law in those areas of the state
where wolves remain listed as an endangered species.
The federal Endangered Species Act has been held to be a valid exercise of Congress's power
under the Commerce Clause of the United States Constitution, even in circumstances where the
species protected is found wholly within one state. GDF Realty Investments, Ltd. v. Norton,
326 F.3d 622 (5th Cir. 2003). Thus, the provisions of the Endangered Species Act and related
regulations prevail over contradictory state law. See, e.g. City of New York v. FCC, 486 U.S.
57, 64 (1988) (stating that regulations authorized by federal statute preempt contradictory state
law). For this reason, this bill has a high probability of being held to be unconstitutional.

More than anything with all of our yearnings to put down "Trophy class" animals is more of an issue with centuries of mismanagement by those "in power". I see a credible arguement for both sides. The DNR's management of big/hoofed game in this state is ridiculous!!!!!!!

The bill might pass, but it will be overturned by supreme court after the greenies sue the state of utah...

im all for States managing their own lands and less federal management

just remember the the triple S. Shoot, Shovel, Shut up
rumor has it they are already in the north slope...

NO rumor

Unless you're wealthy. The DNR is not managing anything.......they are running a business. Capitalizing on hunting enthusiasts, no different than turbo manufacturers.

He with the most and biggest animals either has the most money or the most connections.

He to the top of the hill the fastest either has the most money or the most connections.:face-icon-small-hap

I for one will follow the 3 s' Shoot, Shovel and Shut up. There is no need for them to be in our state period. If I see one on the north slope it's getting shot! I guess you all know where I stand on the issue huh? lol

I love how they use the word extremists.......it is the same way we describe them.:face-icon-small-hap
This bill has much more significance than just wolves. If it passes, it opens the door for many states to do the same. It also opens the door for many other bills and laws to be passed to stop the federal government from interfering with state issues......
Take the bill introduced from the NY senator to add 9+million acres of wilderness to Utah for instance....
While I am an active SFW member, I will support and watch this bill closely, not just for the wolf issue at hand, but for many others that would follow....

What do ya know........Wolfy Bill passed! Touche!

Lets see how the feds react to this one......this would be a great precedent to allow states to govern themselves on some issues.:face-icon-small-hap

Wow, this is so not how things are supposed to be, seriously things must have gone way wrong when states control themselves and the federal government only handles interstate transportation/commerce and national defense

No worries hyperduc.......I am sure Uncle Sam will try and call us back into order and undermind our states government.:face-icon-small-con

Gov. Herbert still has to sign it to, but I am betting with the overwhelming majority vote that he will.

There are wolves in Utah?
:face-icon-small-con

According to biologists, there are no wolves in Utah, therefore if you see one shoot it, after all it is only a coyote! I did see a large black "coyote" on the North Slope last fall.

This is like Utah passing a bill against abortion. Sounds like great rhetoric, but it is really just a waste of state resources and time.

Way to GO Utah!!!

I should be getting a whiny alert begging for money to fight this........If they only knew.
