We should have a standard radio freq that people can use to find others for help or just to find other people out riding.

I use channel 4.4 on my Garmin 530 so anyone can put that in there Garmin and poll me in bountiful, farmington, tony's grove or uinta's and see if i'm there. I'm always more than willing to help out if I can.:)

sounds good, i usually use 19.19 but i will have to get on 4.4 next time im up bountiful! hope to see you up there one of these days!!!

Whatever you use, I would recommend using one of the frequencies that is both GMRS and FRS......such as channels 1 - 7. That way if someone only has FRS they can still transmit on the same channel, and if they have GMRS they can transmit at a higher wattage and the radios will reach a lot further.
But at the same time, those channels may be a little more congested.

Just my .02

I could be wrong but I believe when GMRS operate on FRS channels they have to lower their wattage.

But sounds like a good idea to me.

Correct - the 5w GMRS/FRS radios do not transmit at 5W on FRS channels, they drop down to ~2w. I'm usually on 3.10 on my 530 as is our group - but knowing that we have others that would be on 4.4 if help is needed is a great idea.

BTW - the snow/conditions were pretty sweet this AM - not epic, but darn close! We were first in the lot at Nobletts and broke trail most everywhere we rode today! It was overcast and flat light by 1:30 though. More snow on the way YEEEEHAAAAWWWW

The 5w GMRS/FRS radios will not transmit at 5W on the FRS only channels, but on the channels that are shared (channels 1-7), I can still transmit at 5W. At least my screen on my 530 says it is transmitting at 5W.
