Utah Avalanche Center Website Question

With all of the awareness around avalanche safety and training I am almost a little embarrassed to ask this question about the web site. First off, contrary so some, I do know how to read. So knowing the danger isn’t the issue. However I have no clue as how to interpret the dang compass circle thingy to that shows up to the left of the conditions description. Can some one please help me understand what the h e l l that represents.

It represents the direction the the aspect or slope is facing and relative elevation.

The compass markers are on there indicating the direction that the slope faces where you will find that danger.
So your North to Northeast facing slopes at lower elevation (outside ring) have moderate danger. Your South to Southwest facing slopes at low elevation have a low danger.
Your upper elevations.....(inner rings) have a Considerable danger all around.
Your upper elevations that face North to Northeast have pockets of High danger.

Hope that makes sense. Someone may be able to explain a little clearer.;)

Thanks for the clarification chief. I knew it had to do with elevation, but didnt know they tied it to treeline.

And you stated it perfectly for the conditions "Its not about the slope.....its about the trees."

Good question on what we refer to as the "Danger Rose". We've been meaning to compile a quick tutorial on how to read it but haven't been able to do it yet. Justdooit_utah explained it pretty well. Here's a bit more from another web site.

great question and even better explainations. I look at it daily but now I'll understand it better. I do now a compass and GPS for altitude. I also stick to the parking lot. ;) almost
