Using flashers in low visibility?

I was traveling today in blizzard conditions & noticed about half of the drivers had their flashers on.
Has this become standard practice?
I've always assumed flashers were for slow or stopped traffic.
These clowns were doing 70 in the passing lane w/their flashers on.

I have no idea if there is a law regarding this, but was wondering about common practice?

Super slow and stopped are the only times I have seen them used in SE Idaho.

ha!! you should see all the soccer mommies around here driving in a blizzard.they think because they have 4 wheel drive they can go the speed limit in a white out.i love when they pass me and a few miles down the road you see them in the ditch crying on the phone with their husband about how they are guna miss their hair appointment!!!!

rental car this summer- mishap

I rented this car in denver, and was adjusting the radio and accidentally turned on the flashers drove about 20 miles before I found the stupid switch to turn them off, I was doing 80 down the interstate.

but usually flashers are for slow moving vehicles with an emergency

Heh were you coming back on monday too? I didn't see the blinkers but man traffic was sure slow! But yeah most of the time its the slowpokes in the right lane that should be using them, not people using the passing lane.

people always using them up here in the bakken, i think its more annoying when its snowing or blowing out. most people can see taillights no need to have the damn flashers on. but to each there own.
