Poll: 59% fear violence from Trump haters, 31% predict civil war

The division in the United States that has escalated into the organized harassment of presidential aides has six in 10 worried about the violence from anti-Trump advocates and nearly a third fearing it will end in civil war.
The latest survey from Rasmussen Reports found that 59 percent of all voters “are concerned that those opposed to President Trump’s policies will resort to violence.”
And, added Rasmussen, 31 percent believe “it’s likely that the United States will experience a second civil war sometime in the next five years.”
The new polling evidence of fear in the country over political division follows the harassment of three top Trump aides, including spokeswoman Sarah Sanders, ordered out of a southern Virginia restaurant, and senior adviser Stephen Miller whose condo drew protests from liberals.
It also follows a call by liberal California Rep. Maxine Waters to bring pressure to Trump officials when in public and urgings from legal experts for Trump aides to apply for concealed carry permits and buy guns.
In its analysis of the new survey, Rasmussen highlighted who is most concerned about violence:
Most voters across the partisan spectrum are concerned about political violence from those opposed to Trump’s policies, although Republicans are the most likely to be Very Concerned. The level of concern is about the same among Republicans, Democrats and unaffiliated voters when it comes to the threat of violence from those critical of the media’s coverage of Trump.
Women and those under 40 are more worried about a possible civil war than men and older voters are.
Forty-four percent (44%) of blacks think a second civil war is likely in the next five years, a view shared by 28% of whites and 36% of other minority voters. Whites are also less concerned about political violence than the others are.
Buck the 2 party system!
Definitely agree with you that the 2 party system isn't working. The system has been manipulated & rigged to keep those in power from losing their position. DJT has certainly shaken things up & its my hope that as he continues to do so for at least another 2 1/2 years that one of the casualties will be our broken 2 party system. I'm willing to bet if you took a poll of people under 45, 2/3's of them would either identify as independent, or at least not willing to claim party alliance to Democrats or republicans.
Still not a fan of Trump. He caters to the extremes on both sides - doing all he can to pi** off the extremists on the left & all he can to convince the extremists on the right that he's their guy.
Truth be told, the focus needs to move away from the Presidency & hone in on a local as you can get. If the "useless idiots" really cared about their country, they'd vote in every election, from swimming pool bonds & school board on up to federal elections. Its absurd to me that mid-term elections don't out-perform presidential elections. What's really sick is the number of times no one even runs against an incumbent.
We had a primary election in Idaho & the county I'm in had probably the most vitriolic election for a state senate seat in its history. Driving down my road, there was a sign for one or the other candidate on about everyone's lawn. Kudos to the challenger who beat the ignorant incumbent who's been in by 7 points. The challenger did all she could to get someone else to run, including both my mother & father in law. When it became obvious no one else would take up the effort, she put name in the hat & got slandered left & right for 3 months because of it.
But the thing that I found most impressive about the race - It was the best turnout for a primary election in our county in more than 20 years. Educate yourselves. And when elected officials don't know what they're doing or can't articulate what they're doing (that was definitely the case in the race in my county - there was a transcript of an interview circulated where she didn't even seem to know what the 2nd amendment was about, much less have an opinion on it), replace 'em!

What is an "American"? The rest of the world thinks of it as someone who lives in North or South America. Maybe "US American" would be a better label?

Oh,and what I not proud of is the degenerating action of the two party system on my country. GET OUT!
The reason the 2 party system is failing for you guys is lack of accountability-they are elected for a set term and they know it. In just about any other democracy the failure of the majority to pass a bill that it promotes can cause a confidence vote that can result in an election. In other words-you had your chance and screwed it up, get outta the way until the next guys screw it up.
The healthcare debacle last year could have triggered a confidence vote. The immigration failure last week could have too.
Is it perfect? No. Does it avoid logjams like you have now or when McConnell was blocking everything Obama tried? Yes.
What else would you propose besides the current 2 party system?
You seem confident in labeling me a Republican, which yes, I am Registered as a Republican.
However, I will vote for whichever candidate is more loyal to the constitution, in any race.
It seems that in most races, the Democrat candidate is far more willing to ignore the constitution and lean towards more socialistic ideals. That will indeed bring out a side of me that the liberals will not be fond of.
For me there is no "middle ground". There can't be. There comes a time when you must defend what you believe in.

I've got to agree with Mafesto on this one. The United States of America is the oldest established Nation state in the Western Hemisphere. When you say "Americans," anyone with active gray-matter knows who you are talking about. If you want to paint a broader brush, you would say "North Americans" or "South Americans." And painting with a broader brush than that, you might as well just say "humans" or "earthlings."
It's not our fault the founders of Canada or Mexico or El Salvador didn't use the word America in their name. If they want to be known as Americans, immigrate.
