used snowmobile registration transfer??help?

hey guys
I purchased a m7 back in april and finally got around to getting to the DOL. I was under the impression that all you needed was a bill of sale and the old registration. lady told me i either needed the title or a notarized released of ownership?? This was an office i haven't been to before and i think i talked to the wrong person because she had to call someone when i told her sleds don't get reissued titles. I was right and I think it pissed her off. she told me to come back with the original title that the bank had received when the sled was new or a release of ownership. should i try again at a different office??
thanks
guys!

It will probably be the easiest to just go to a different office. I think if this happened to me I would register it at a different office, Document everything in detail and send a bill For mileage, my time, etc. to the DMV. Did you get the name of the person that gave you the hassle? I'd include that in the documentation with the bill.

Or, just go to a different office and smother them with politeness and smile cause you foiled the obstructionest from the first office.

A bill of sale should work but you should call and see what they require as things may have changed. Last fall when selling the KK both parties were in person at the DOL and they provided the bill of sale form. It was smooth. Man do I miss that sled. NOT!

Ruffy,

Let me say it again.... There are no titles on sleds in Washington!!

electronic.....paper.......origami.......

What is an electronic title....:confused::o

Registration and bill of sale should be all you need.

They will ding you if the bill of sale date is more than the allowed time of 14 days (I think) of sale.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

There are no titles on sleds in Washington State!!! I bought my last 2 sleds with nothing more than the bill of sale and the registration...

She was wrong:eek::eek: imagine that:rolleyes::beer;

go to a different office, get it done, and put it behind you.

You may hafta pay a little more seeing as you didn't get it registered within the 14 day allotted time, but you wont need any additional paperwork than you already have.

I believe there is such a thing, maybe not the terminology you think it is. That is what I was told by multiple people.. including the dealership that I bought my sled from, and the credit card people from Yamaha... lol..

I think that is why you they won't let you buy a snowmobile with multiple credit cards.. ;) I think it is only for lien purposes, not registration purposes. Maybe only for new sleds also..

That is what I remember anyways... For all I know they were all lying to me.....

Seller needs to file a transfer via DOL website and then take a bill of sale into DOL to get new reg in your name. If that don't work go to different one because that DOL person is an idiot. Obviously no titles issued on sleds in WA.

I just purchased a sled from a guy in Montana. Montana issues titles for sleds. I went to a licensing agent with a bill of sale and the title. All she took from me was the bill of sale and told me I could throw the title away because it is now registered in Washington and that title is no longer valid. She didn't even look at it. Very easy.....I went to the licensing agent in Kirkland run by Lee Johnson Chevrolet. Right across from their dealership. Not too far from Kenmore....

thanks for all the help. the one thing she did tell me is there is no penalty on snowmobiles no matter how long you wait.

I just got dinged $100 for waiting to register the sled I bought in Feb. Went to register it within the 14 day period but didn't have both registered owner's signatures on the bill of sale. I was told then (Feb) there was no penalty for late transfer/registration on snowmobiles. Back to the same title Co. in July they run the program to register the sled in my name and find out there is in fact a penalty.

Does anyone know if the penalty increases with time? For example if i bought a sled 3 years ago, and go to register it today, will the penalty still be $100 or will it be $100,000?

got it registered

went to another licensing office they transfered it over no problem and asked me for the names of the ladies the held me over at the other office so that it wouldn't happen again. no penalty it could just be the county i registered them in doesn't give the penalty. its up to the discretion of the who ever is working, I hate how those offices work.
