Upper Rear Frame ***. Broke

Has anyone ever broke the upper tubular rear frame assembly? I have never hit anything with the sled it still actually has all the stock a arms on it. I just tore my sled down to do some powder coating on it and found this broke. I guess I would have thought I would notice a hit big enough to break it!

Looks like you ride yours harder in the garage than I do mine.

Good thing you caught it when you did, I could imagine rolling the sled to get it unstuck or landing wrong could break more parts.

I have seen two broke there, but both were on the 2011s... It is a weak spot, both sleds weren't necessarily abused, but ridden hard for sure... Oh well, too bad you can't just buy the cast part. You have to buy the whole rear section which is like 300 bucks

How often do u use a snow bunje? They put a lot of stress on the overstructure and steering hoop when getting pulled on by another sled and the steering cocked one way.. I've seen several break especially the 13 with the carbon fiber overstructure.

Another reason why I don't use sno bunjes. Imo the most over rated product in snowmobiling. Sorry gor the rant...

Ha I have never used a snow bunje. I guess I don't really care for them and these sleds are pretty easy to get unstuck! My local dealer is going to try and get it warrantied for me but I doubt it will happen. I had them order the part and yeah it's right around $300. I had an 11 and rode it just as hard as I do my 13 and never had any issues. Could it maybe be the carbon fiber causing an issue?

Replace the CF while your at it , make a couple of bumpers out of it , if that tells you how much sense it makes to use it where they do . Mass production will not produce a superior product , it can't , not profitable . It's pretty bad that a rubber band is taking the heat for this .

I've seen them snap right after being used...been there done that. Its a weak structure yes....poor design probably....I'm just saying the steess a bunje creates on that strucutre is not helping any cause to a flawed design. Maybe before you try to make a post about blame think about what was trying to be said. I ride 120 days a year on these sleds...to me its laughable that people still use em.....but that's not the topics about. I was just trying to answer a question....which he asked as a possible reason something failed. Your statement is obvious...no **** you can't mass produce a superior product (which isnt necessarily true) no **** it wouldn't be profitable...I guess somee of us are trying to dig a little deeper into potential problems....not just point fingers at manufacturer and cry about it..

In my rescue team we have 3 2011 switchbacks Assaults and we have broken 4 upper tubular rear frame assembly. Most of the times it has happened when rolling the sled in hard packed snow ore plane ice. We ended up reinforcing the frame so it will not happen again.

I guess I don't know how snow bunjes became the subject here. I have used them they work alright I just haven't used one for several years. I wasn't saying that the parts weren't good at all. I was just wandering how many people have done the same thing. Maybe people are reinforcing them? That's what I was thinking about doing with my next one.

sorry brian. My comment was not geared towards you. What I have seen is the CF ones are breaking not the aluminum, I see some have said they have seen both break so who knows. I ride pretty hard and have not broke mine.

Oh I know Phil. Yeah I have no clue what happened. I guess there's nothing I can do about it except replace it and hope I don't break it again. Thanks for the responses though! Hopefully the horns start getting some big storms here soon!!

Seems to me that these are the funnest sleds on the snow, but they sure do have a lot of weak spots. I'll have to check mine to see if it is still holding up or not. I just noticed last week that my lower rear bar of the A-arm has come loose (bond didn't hold and it slides in and out). Wonder how long I've been riding it like that. I know these sleds are not made to hit trees or rocks, but I did not hit anything hard enough to cause this. (IMHO) I love the sled but think there are some major weak spots. Maybe I should just design a better sled right? I just hope Polaris will focus on some weak spots so we don't have to go through the sled adding expensive after market products to beef them up so we can ride them in the mountains. So you guys with the 2013 sleds may want to check your A arms to see if the bonding is holding up.

Ummm didn't you guys just get like 16 feet a few weeks ago. Its coming in the horns soon tho. at least we got a good early snow to hopefully make for a nice base.

When I took my lower right a arm off it was loose as well. I checked them last year when everyone was having issues but they seemed fine. I am sure Polaris will give me a new one of those but kind of scary. I am sure happy I took the sled apart! Yeah we had a huge dump the beginning of October. It was a pretty crazy storm.
