Upper a-arm is hard against the shock r/s

Well i let a friend ride my rev...he hit something and somehow the right ski must have went down, not up, and the upper a-arm came forward and is touching the shock and the shock rod is slightly bent. The a-arm itself doesn't appear to be bent. What do I need to replace? That (right side) ski is toe'd in hard (over an inch) and the spindle is cantered forward as well. Any body have this happen? Any input is appreciated. I know the shock is toast, and am worried the damage may be to what the a-arm bolts too. Man I wish the doos could take a hit better! Thanks in advance to all who reply. You will get rep!:D Rev

Take a closer look at your nun (front crossmember). Many times they look like they are okay but are far from it.

Worked on one on Friday night. Right ski was 6 inches back from the left ski and a-arm was touching the shock. Nun didn't look bad at all until we started measuring and noticing little bulges and indentations on the right side. It's really too bad the a-arms don't break before all the structural damage.

How much of a biotch is it to change the nun? Yeah I hear ya but if the a-arm bent it would've just took out more parts....damn pinecones anyway!lol Thanks man!

The nun will be tweaked for sure. Have you worked on sleds much, drilling out rivets, etc? It's not too difficult but lots of drilling/grinding. Basically the motor can stay in but everything from the motor forward has to come off.

You'll have to purchase the new nun and probably the front plate too. I think the 07 440 nun comes complete with all the bracing from BRP so this is the best one to order.

An air chisel will help rip rivet heads off, and you'll need a few 3/16" drill bits.

It's not a lot of fun but it is doable. I recommend getting the MXZ race support brackets. They install to make the actual tunnel/bulkhead stronger if the nun fails. Better to keep changing nuns than to ruin a tunnel.

I'll be changing one out in a few days if you want me to take some pictures of the process. But if you're anything like me you're probably wanting to get started with this ASAP.

It's too bad there's no better way around this. I've had good luck with my Fabcraft a-arms. They get rid of the lower ball joint and use a heim joint. If you hit something, the heim joint sheers off with minimal, if any, damage to the a-arm. I just carry an extra heim. It can be replaced in minutes and not ruin a day of riding.

I wouldn't have a problem drilling out rivets, Thanks for the reply....you have rep! rev

That would be great if you would take pics of the process! Thank you JROD!! I am in debt to you already!! I might just have to get ahold of fabcraft, as that sounds like the way to go!!!

i will never understand why so many peolpe change the nun when it gets bent.....take a hammer or whatever to bend it back and continue to ride, it will be ok, or add some support plate with bolts....besides, changing the nun is a PITA!!!

Some guys would do that but I have to doo it right, I am just that way. I will fix it perfect even if it costs me alot. Just wish these doos could take a hit!

I have a set of shocks off of my 08 xp that will work on your rev for sale. I will sell just one also.

I have a buddy with fabcraft A arms on his xp. He has broke the heim joints several times, but he hit a tree once and fell 10' into a creek once hitting the bank on the other side. The first time he did not have the heim joint so we had to rig some thing up, but he was able to ride it out.
He now carries extra heim joints and all the tools he needs. Less then a 5 min fix now if a heim joint breaks.

I just changed a nun on my 07 440 X.

It isn't to bad. I have never done something like this and I wanted to take on the project as I had nothing better to do and money was tight so why not do it myself.

Get a bunch of drill bits and pull the nun out yourself. When you put it back together use stainless steel bolts with stainless steel nyloc nuts. It will make it easier to fix the next time it happens and it will cut the replacement time in half.

Get the 07 zx 440 nun as it is the best one. Good luck and also check behind your can and also under your primary to make sure your bulkhead isn't tweaked. If it is you will have to remove the motor and probably replace your front motor plate then as well.

Before you start tightening everthing up get all the bolts started then everything should pull together and come close to perfect.

Thanks Man! I just finished tearing it down and sadly enough, the nun is tweaked pretty bad, it buckled on the right front, I'm going to get the nun you suggested and some fabcraft a-arms, maybe some floats to match the rear and do all of the work myself. Rev
