Upgrading the Old 1M's suspension

Wondering if you guys think its worth replacing front and rear shocks with a fox float setup, secondhand. Along with the 09 M series skid conversion.

My current setup needs a new rear rear shock which I am having a little trouble getting a 2nd hand one for cheap. Not paying 300 bucks for a newy.

The front shocks look old as hell as well.

The rest of the whole suspension setup is pretty old and beat up looking. Front A arms could use replacing. Rails have cracks along them in some spots and also egged out some of the bolt holes.

My sled also has a CR 162 Tunnel so not sure if all the mount points are going to be in the same spot (Id assume so).

Just dont wanna spend all this money if its not gonna be worth it.

Had the same sled/CR tunnel. etc. Boss seat a must, higher positioning & seat composition add to any existing suspension. I ran a Holz rear skid, valved/sprung for my weight. If you have the proper sag, it worked phenominal! You would have to find a used one now, or a K-Mod is another alternative. If you can find someone to re-valve/re-spring your sled for "your" riding style, it makes a big diff. But in the end, not the comfort level on the trail compared to the newer iron. If you can find good used components, great. Good Luck...

I have to 2010 sno pro 162" skid under my 2005 king cat along with the floats up front. All shocks have been revalved by GSR (which is well worth the money). The 3 biggest differences that I notice on my sled to my buddies that is stock are: the rear half of my sled is noticeably lighter, the tunnel sits higher than stock, and my sled absorbs bumps/hits better.

It's a little tough for me to say which sleds climbs better, trenches less, etc. because mine is heavily modded and has a powerclaw track so we're talking apples to oranges.

My personal opinion is that it's worth upgrading your skid - esp if you plan on keeping the sled. Those cracks you mention are eventually going to break... and if your luck is like mine, they will break at the worst possible moment.

I put an 07 M1000 skid in my King Cat, then converted it to Float, and Floats in the front. Worth it, loved that sled. You should be able to find a good set of Floats for the front for $250, complete sklds for good deals here. If you just need some rails, I think I have a set of 162 M7 rails in the shop.

I have a CR Racing seat which is a rebadged Boss seat on closer inspection.

Just going over the front suspension now. Are there any simple tests that can be done to check the front suspension? ie check the spring to see if its still within factory specs or whatever? And check to see if the shock needs rebuilding or anything.

Am trying to work out if the supension is still all good or not on the old girl. If the shocks and springs are done then it makes the fox float upgrade almost a neccessity. :P

Here are some pics, first 4 are left side, next 4 are right side.

I see the lower A-Arms are starting to warp/bend at the middle join a bit and where one of the top A-Arms connects to one of the spindles is loose and probably needs replacing. Not sure if its an A-Arm issue or the spindle (or perhaps just a bushing) and cant remember which side. I need to jack it up to take the weight off the front ski's.

Ill know more when I can pull them all apart in the coming month or two.

If the shocks have never been touched since new they need a rebuild, period.

You should just by my 04 I have for sale. It has a Cutler coil over rear with a Works remote res shock and all the other shocks are recently rebuilt Fox with titanium springs:face-icon-small-ton

At any rate, you will not believe how much better it rides and handles with good shocks!

Thats what Im thinking. This will most likely be my last winter in Canada so just trying to work out if its worth the money/hassle. Hopefully the engine dont blow up after the first few rides!!

No worries there. I just bought a 2010 and I am more worried about it breaking than the old war horse 1M.
