Hey all,

Well im looking into a 09 Dragon 800 155". The sled has 700 miles on it and is all stock. What are some good mods for the money? Thinking a clutch kit and Gear down... What is the best clutch kit out there? Ride 8k+ feet. Any other recommendations? SLP kit? Head? Advice would be great!

i would reccomend better boards and bars or skinz air frame running boards...snow evac on the stock boards suck

i would also reccomend covering the headlight adjuster with the slp kit as it is a straight shot into the air box.

for the 800 the pcV gets mad props and does wonders from what i have heard.

lots of guys like swapping out the stock 5.1 for a challenger extreme but this should require a drop and roll

as for gearing 19/42 seems most popular and allows use of stock chain

refer to the increasing your iq thread pinned at the top of this section for lots of good info:face-icon-small-coo

SLP Single pipe is great

Definitely cover the headlight adjuster (I used black adhesive silicone sealer)

Better Boards

Vents (for sure in the shock towers)

lots of other great mods around too, but these are the first ones I would recommend.

Must Have:
PC V
Boards
Vents
bogey wheels (or just always use scratchers)
Fun to have: pipe and can, hand guards, more vents, under hood goggle bag.....

refer to increasing your IQ thread.

THanks for the info I have gathered so far!

What Vents do you guys recommend? Website to order them at?

Also PCV, Can I ask what it is and what its used for? How do you use it? Where to get it? Cost?

Also Ive always been a big believer in clutch kits.. Seems like there is always better to be had than stock clutching.. I've seen that Carl's name is tossed around alot.. How are his kits? I ride 8k+ feet boondock, in the trees, climbs... ALL the info would be great!

Thanks again!

PCV is a Power Commander V (as in 5). Made by DynoJet. It's a fuel controller that allows you to change the fuel settings, but does not reflash your ECM. Think of it as rejetting for fuel injection. Usually runs you around $370 and maps can be found in different places. I recommend buying from Jim at DynoTechResearch (not to be confused with DynoJet). He provides maps that he builds from his testing. SLP can also provide maps. This fuel control really allows you to get some performance from that motor. Polaris used a rich map from the factory.

wheel kit is great ($60)
the stock scratchers work, but once you back up their done, I would recommend Slidekicks, they have replaceable carbide tips for only $15 so you don't have to buy a whole new one like you do with the stock ones

I highly rec. Carls secondary helix and belly buster wieghts for primary. Better boards, venting of any type. Look at increasing your iq at the top of this forum. Lots of great info there. Ck your left front engine mount bolt. The stock bolt is threaded all the way to the head of the bolt IMO this weakens the bolt. At the very least make sure it's tight or replace with 3/8 /16 @ 2.5 inch length
Grade 8. Sorry for long post

whats the #s on the carls special helix
thanks

sorry to hyjack. but got an 09 also and wondering about clutching

208-853-5550 Carl's Performance and buy a clutch kit for your application.

Ask for Chris who is the manager of the performance division. You hear the name thrown around because universally they are the best in the biz when it comes to consistant reliable everyday performance for the masses on mtn Polaris sleds.

Better Boards
Better Bars
Carl's Clutch kit
trim your 5.1 track to 2.1" insert screws
FOX floats up front and zero pro's in the rear as a worse case or really step up and Evol it if you really want an massive felt riding improvement.

That simple and relatively cheap batch of improvements will vastly improve your recreational riding pleasure!

Good input Hank. Can't wait to see how your summer mods make that sled run.

Fire' N Ice everything!
Better Boards from F-bomb
Dash Vent is nice ( next to the RMP gauge)

I second that...

I have had nothing but good luck with the Better Boards and Fire N Ice vents in the past few years.

Carls Clutching kit as well as getting Indy Specialties to balance/blueprint the clutch..

WILL DO! I think im gonna get the sled I'm looking into. It a 09 Dragon 155 800 with 700 miles on it. For $6500. Bone stock. Does not have the updates done to it (I.E. the Pistons and Head and Reflash) He said it runs awesome without it so they didnt touch it. Not sure if I should or not.

Get the new pistons and head!!!
Do not reflash though.

The new double ring pistons have had great success.

Although at this point where the sled may be almost out of warranty, you may just run the old parts til something goes wrong (which hopefully is never).

Then hypothetically once your single ring pistons are toast you could get updated to double rings. (for free??)
