I have what appears to be a high compression head for my 2010 rmk 800. got it from the previous owner but not sure if I want to put it on or not. I only ride the sled in Wyoming. numbers on the head are as follows

on the domes reads- 12-395D

head itself reads- 12-397

will get pics up as soon as my luggage gets here. (airport "mis placed" it)

Pics are always good, but I'd say SLP from the part numbers:

SLP power dome. I've run them at altitude with no issue although I always ran a bit of octane boost or a race gas mix but I also had several other mods. What's the reasoning for wanting to put them on though? Without time for testing or tuning its sometimes best to just leave well enough alone especially when mountain riding.

The benefit is more power. Higher compression.

I understand the benefit (however small or insignificant as it may be), but not the reasoning for putting them on now vs. just riding without. Original poster is from Iowa and I assume that they are going to trailer to ride VS. work on sleds.

I guess I should have clarified....... Personally I would leave it alone unless you are confident of their condition (they appear used) and why the previous owner removed. Just seems like one more thing to worry about all for a 1-3hp (at sea level) increase. Just my 2 cents.

If it is the correct setup from SLP there is really no work to do. Put the head on and leave it. Assuming it isn't too much compression for the elevation there is almost zero negatives to it. If you're getting crazy with compression then you need to add some race fuel. If not, just put it on and leave it.

I appreciate all of the input!! :yo: not really sure what I want to do yet I
would like a couple extra HP's but not sacrifice reliability. so what I might

do is put the head on the last day of our trip (feb. 19th-23rd) and see how

it does just incase it does cause issues. what do you guys think about that?

ok now 3 days ago i loaded my sled up to take to the dealer for a full service, as i pulled it out it bogged a bit when throttling. the dealership said they were going to try and figure it out. any things it could be? trip west is in a month....
